Header Question

Looking to purchase a header upgrade for my B18C1. Currently I got a Apexi World Sport II catbac exhaust and am looking at a few different header possibilities. First off I would like to know how well the Hytech Replica 4-2-1 Header that OptionJDM is offering for sale how that has worked for others?

I am planning an All-Motor build and was pretty keen on 4-1 either DC Sports or Vibrant performance headers.

So what do you guys suggest based on prior experience or knowledge?

Thanks input is greatly appreciated.

i only have experience with one, but i got the vibrant j-spec 4-2-1 one-piece race header and i love it... especially the one-piece part of it (lighter, looks better) :p

also the header fits perfectly snug inline where the stock header was, doesn't hang any lower or anything

i got it local in london for under $500 next day shipped, after tax

Oh ye I was looking into the 4-1 Jspec race header from Vibrant. Do you know how much power was made with the 4-2-1?

hi-speed performance 07-21-2008 09:33 PM

Not to sure about how much power you will be able to produce.

I can get you that for $449.99

thanks

Stugatts 07-21-2008 09:36 PM

you can get me the vibrant 4-1 for $449.99?

hi-speed performance 07-21-2008 09:36 PM

TI price, yes

Stugatts 07-21-2008 09:36 PM

i'm interested in the type r rear valances, side skirts, and 4-1 header if you can make me a deal we can talk further......

hi-speed performance 07-21-2008 09:38 PM

PM me :)

Stugatts 07-21-2008 09:39 PM

done........

jesse 07-21-2008 09:57 PM

not sure about power, i still haven't gotten around to tuning.. sorry
probably same as most headers anyway

i paid less than $450 pre-tax, as it was about $495 after tax for the 4-2-1, not sure if the 4-1 is priced differently

google or HT would benefit you...

can you even compare the dc 4-1 to the hytech replica since the later doesn't allow you to run a cat?

Stugatts 07-23-2008 07:00 AM

either way I would be using some sort of test pipe

out of those two hytech replica hands down.

Stugatts 07-23-2008 01:20 PM

have you had experience with the hytech? why is it hands down better?

the dc "jdm" 4-1 has been around forever. it would have been a good choice in 2002 if you on a budget and couldn't afford a toda or a hytech.

today, there is a knockoff of the hytech for the same amount of $$ as a dc. since you don't care about emissions and would run a test pipe anyways, why not go for the header that will give you the most gains?

Stugatts 07-23-2008 06:11 PM

good point, i was just worried that the repilcas were not reliable or like any other replica's never produce the same qaulity and performance as the authentic one.

dc24me 07-23-2008 09:20 PM

i have a buddy who picked up a real hytech for his stock gsr (racecar). it's beautiful. i've seen a replica/knockoff which very good for the money.

your right, some replicas are junk, like the $149 knockoffs of the oem j-spec 98R 4-1 headers..

Stugatts 07-23-2008 10:01 PM

okay sounds good because im thinking of picking up the set that OptionJDM has for sale which look to be good qaulity but i'm hoping they perform as well as they look.

i made 199whp, 143 wtq (81.5mm lsv)with the vibrant j spec 4-2-1 and my boy made 201whp, 136wtq (81.5mm c1)

dc24me 07-24-2008 01:01 AM

^peak power, who cares! post a dyno so we can see the curve. blame your sig, lol. but seriously what cams were in those builds, jun 3s?

81.5mm wiseco (11.7/1 c.r), eagles, crank gridle, b.crower 2's, b.crower vt, 3" aem hybrid, 2.5" metal core cat, 24" muffler, 18" resonator, 2.5" catback, stock head, 4-2-1 j spec. 198.8whp, 143 wtq. as for the people that say peak numbers don't mean ----, ur talking to the wrong person. i'm using a p30/68mm combo for logical reasons. longer runners +small plenum cross section = quick cylinder filling. contrary to popular belief, a larger plenum usually hurts average power, as opposed to helping it. if an im shifts power 700rpm later yet only nets 3-4whp more, the motor is producing power slower. my motor peaks at 7400rpm (both whp & wtq) and still makes 185whp & 1115wtq at 8500rpm. with the same set up, but bc3+'s, it made 192whp & 140wtq. the bc3+ beat the b.crowers down low. as much as 12whp & 15wtq (b.crowers make more power from 6500-8500). the car feels quicker with the bc3's bcuz of the flatter tq curve b4 vtec engagement. pulling power doesn't drop below 125wtq until 7700rpm (holds 135wtq from 5300-7500). i'll see if Zman can post the bc3+ graph.

if that's for me, i was referring to your sig and maybe added a bit of sarcasm and exaggeration to it. my bad.

peak power is nice, but after seeing Producing broad usable power is the answer, not peak numbers. in your sig over the past few years, it made me think and i realized i had to reconsider my eventual motor rebuild since i'd like to keep my car primarily a streetcar and would like to see more gains under 8k rpm more than above.
