Head Gasket.
 
Hey T.I. errrrsss

Im just wondering when i get back to Canada what type of head gasket should I get for the b18c.

Should I go with;

A) After Market ex(spoon,hks...)

B) OEM*

Let me know your input which is better and any advice you can give me with your pick. Also if it is worth getting an aftermarket one.

Im planning on achieving around 300whp no boost, all N/A.

Then go with a metal head gasket then, something aftermarket.

How exactly are you planning on hitting 300whp? I know vw guys use head gasket spacers to lower compression, so finding a multi layer gasket you could bring the compression up a bit if you use thinner ones.

get ready to spend some real serious moniesss but in reality its probably next to impossible to achieve this so.. anyways

i think you need to do some more homework...
btw you should go OEM headgasket

he has a type r engine already. he doesnt need to do much to get 300whp. 4000$ and hes good.

even 250 is hard enough but 300whp? not a chance

greddy makes good head gaskets, so see if they make any for your engine. Yeah 300 whp on any Honda is going to be at least $8K plus.

Heh it would be nice to hit 300 whp i probably wont put thats my goal somewhere around that mark. I do plan on changing most of the internals. I will see how the funding is gonna be got lots of plans for my dc just a matter of time im planning on finishing this build within the next 4 years.

I was looking at the spoon head gaskets. they go for around 180.

Another idea poped into my head this morning.

Would it be possible if i did the head gasket myself, i know labour is alot for this type of job but if i was able to do my own swap could this be achieved by me? wanting to save myself cash maybe not patiences, and i'll learn something along the way give me some input into how hard this really is to do and if its worth it car will most likly be off of insurance so it can take awhile.

i dont see why not keep everything organized and labeled
you might need to grab some new head studs from like arp

question: do you need new head studs each time the head is mounted and torqued??
what if the motor already has arp studs that were installed like 2 years ago?

I have no clue what those are. so i dont know if you need new ones. I would label and note everything and find out what i need from my mechanic i'll see what other people here say i might need/ run into.

^ it was an open question for anyone to answer that knows
the head studs are the bolts that actually hold the head to the block arp is a popular manufacturer ppl use

the reason they need to be replaced is because i believe that they "stretch" after some time

why ask your mechanic just search for some guide online? team-integ. honda-tech etc. pics, tips and more what more can you want

Yes you can do it yourself, I just did mine this winter with the help of some mechanic friends, it ended up being simple as they just kinda guided me in the direction I did the work. Hanes manual is your friend for stuff like this, just get bags, put bolts in proper bags like "starter", "valve cover" etc so when you go to put it back you remember exactly what each bolt is for!

Arp headsuts, are kind of expensive, but they are supposed to be reuseable which is why everyone gets them. Headgaskets; for b18c1 (I assume b18c 5 as well), are metal no matter what... I did research into it, and they come as MLS (multi layered steel) I was told to make sure I got one, but since it came from factory with one its all you'll find!

like I stated up there, ARP are supposed to be reuseable... so if they were already torqued for 2 years, they should still be able to be reused! just make sure you use the write socket (1/2" 12pt; thats what mine was) so you don't strip anything and you'll be good!

when i did a headgasket on my buds car, i laid everything out as if it was in the engine. then i put bolts in bags aswell. not hard at all. morning to night job for ur 1st time

300whp N/A? sorry bro, keep dreaming, it's not gonna happen. go find info on Endyn's 300 hp B20/vtec. the bare block alone will set you back $3,000+.

ya i think im willing to take on this task it will be great to learn something new and get my hands in the motor all over again.

will i need headstuts im not sure how long they have been in the motor since i just put like 7k on the motor. and how much do they go for?

I got myself the haines book. and about 300whp i dont think its gonna happen, might end up changeing my mind and slapping a turbo on this car lol.

you will need head studs. for one the oem ones stretch and you shouldnt reuse them. go get ARP head studs, they are re-usable after torquing them down to spec and also they can hold up and save you problems from potential head lift.

cheaper to get engine stuff from weaksauce. though they do take 8 to 10 days.

with the shipping and cost to come over the boarder, ur still saving money
