guys i need help

i got my teg a few months ago and this is the first time i clean my engine bay, from the looks of it it hasnt been cleaned...ever anyways me and my friend checked the rotor, wires, and spark plugs to see if they need changing and we found out that they all do anyways when i wanted to start up my car it struggled and and when it did it mis fired constantly and and kept reving really low until a point where the engine would die, (its automatic) me and my friend think its the wires any ideas would be greatly apprentiacted..(ps we bag the rotor and alternator from water any info would be great i need my car to go to my first teg meet this sunday HELP

Buff4Prez Yo 06-07-2007 03:57 PM

ok what parts have you changed so far?

esguerra 06-07-2007 08:48 PM

water in the cylinder possibly?? water must have gotten to something

Buff4Prez Yo 06-07-2007 09:11 PM

i'm thinking the wires soaked up some water or it got in the dizzy. i'd replace wires, cap and rotor and see where to in from there

canttx 06-07-2007 09:22 PM

did you remove the spark plug wires from the cap when you opened it? if you did, did you re-install the wires in the proper order?

oths88 06-07-2007 11:21 PM

no i didnt i just took out the wires from the spark plugs ps i just came back from work and tried to start up my car and it started but reved at 600rpm, i then gave it a little bit of gas and then it stayed at about 1500-2000 pm where it should be whe its cold, i turned off the car and back on and the same thing happened

i havent changed anything yet im going to change my wires and possibly my spark plugs tomorow

oths88 06-07-2007 11:22 PM

oh and i havent changed anything i had to go to work right after but im going to change my wires and possibly my spark plugs(im low on cash)

Buff4Prez Yo 06-08-2007 12:55 AM

do wires and cap. you should've kept the wire on the plugs to keep water out of the holes

JEFFOS69 06-08-2007 09:17 AM

Take wires off plugs and let sit in sun wih hood open for a few hrs.

If that doesnt work I would take plugs out and crank over motor a few times without the plugs.

oths88 06-08-2007 09:38 AM

ill try that but its suppose to rain today so i dont kno how thats gann work...

i was in a exact same scenario two years ago.
Heres what you need to do
Take off the spark plug wires and let em dry good then take your spark plugs out and clean em. if you noticed your plug wire might be moist. so after taking your wires and the plugs out take a CLEAN piece of cloth and clean the cylinders (where the plugs go) until you are sure its dry. After all this put everything back together and it should be fine.

PS: oh and if you are really picky after wiping it with the cloth use a hair dryer to completely dry it

Remove the wires and let the car sit in the sun for a few hours, if that does not fix it, check your firing order, you may have got it wrong when you installed them back.
