grinding noise when braking

when i stop, sometimes i hear a grinding noise from the front passenger side and it's on and off.. hard to explain but it's like grind grind grind grind.. so it's not a constant noise. the brake pads are fine, caliper moves.. i dunno what it could be.. again it doesn't happen everytime.. only periodically, maybe once or twice a week... any thoughts on what to check? ...i've never replaced my rotors btw. but i don't think that would be the cause of the noise. there's no noise while coasting either.

What's the condition of the rotor? Do they need to be turned or replaced?

I would suggest re-bedding the pads and see if that makes a difference. Sand down the rotor a bit to get the brake pad material off and then bed the pads again.

By the way, is that an OEM R lip you have? Want to sell it? :D

ok, i guess it might be the rotors.. well since i got the car in 99, brand new i've never serviced the rotors... so it might be time.. i'll check them out and reseat the pads..

yes it's the 97R lip but it's not OEM.. it's the urethane option jdm one.. fits nicely with a bit of work but nah, i don't think i want to sell it.. lol.. after many years i'm 98% happy with the way it looks.. haha. ..dammit don't temp me to change it again.

Wow, you haven't changed the rotors in 8 years? I'm pretty sure they're done. I would suggest just getting new rotors, in that case. Are the pads relatively new?

I'll pass on the lip, since it's not OEM, so you don't have to change anything. Well, at least not by my influence. :laugh1:

well the rotors look like to be in good shape.. that's why i've never changed them. the brake pads are fairly new as i just got them in the spring.

i'll see if i can grab some crappy tire rotors...
