Gas Smell
usually i pump 87 octane, but today i decided to pump 91. after driving for awhile i parked my car inside my garage and after awhile my whole garage smelt like gas. i decided to park it outside and still i can smell the gas. does anyone know what the problem could be?
Is it possible you overfilled it? and it leaked abit. I can't see changing octane levels doing anything like this....??? kinda weird
Higher octane gas combusts at higher temperatures, so you may have unburned gas in the exhaust. When was the last time the car had a tune up?
Although I doubt that older plugs could actually cause that. Go back to 87 and be a cheap mofo haha. That's what I do. |
Yea stay 87 max 89. our LS motors dont need anything more.
I occasionally put 91 in my ls but that's only when I feel like spoiling my baby :P
probly just the higher temp issue as stated above. tune her up!!
Yes higher grade gas will give you the gas smell, but also if your filling up, when the gas pump stops, don't fill it up any more, as that extra gas goes into your charcoal canister under the hood, and you will get a gas smell because of it, and it's only supposed to have fuel vapors in it.
i dont usually pump 91, just thought it would be good to pump 91 once in a while. i havent had a tuneup in a long time. how much would a tuneup cost on average.
yea, I do the same. every once and a while pump the good stuff and it makes me feel like ive spoiled my kid or something. tuneup wont cost you too much. most places should be $30-$50 but depending on where you are it can go up to $100. and obviously if you need new plugs or timing belt etc. that all costs extra.
Basic tune up consists of spark plugs/wires/cap/rotor/fuel filter and if you wish a pcv valve.
You can do everything at home within 15-20minutes. Try just pulling your plugs out to see what condition they are in. Could also buy a cheap spark plug gapper (got mine for 3$) just to double check the plug gaps. |
i doubt it is my spark plugs and wires because they were done recently, but i will double check that.
i always put in 91 and never have a gas smell. i just cus i like v power, its good gas. i dont really care bout the extra money, i had to use it before so its just become habit.
Just do a good throttle body clean, change your plugs, see how it goes. |
will do a good tuneup as soon as my exam is over.
do a good tune up then reset your ecu too. and do lil things that get passed.
throttle body clean, intkae and intake mani clean (if your up to it.) and other things like that. |
i use the highest. Just because its more clean. And you can feel the difference.
