Fuel pump replacement

I got a fuel pump from a member here and he and and another integra owner are telling me that i can replace the fuel pump by removing the rear seats and unbolting that center piece. I did that and i pulled out something that looks nothing like the fuel pump(i am assuming it is the fuel level sensor). So my question is is it a must to have to drop the fuel tank (as im pretty sure it is), or is there another way?

If i do have to drop the tank I know 100% i will need new straps. Does any one know where to get some and how much they go for?

It is a 1990 Integra.

Thanks.

From what i remember, in 1990-1991 integras the fuel pump is NOT under the seats but in fact on the top rear corner of the tank and isnt accessible without dropping your fuel tank. You do however need to loosen the wires for the pump from under the seats first to create slack and then drop your gas tank and pull the pump out. Straps im sure you can find an an auto shop somewhere i guess.

um im pretty sure the pump is under the seats ( like mine is a 93 and ravis is a 91 and nothin looks different).....n i dont think u would have to drop the tank to change it, correct me if im wrong lol

the piece under the seat is the sending unit, you have to drop the tank. Your straps wont break they should be fine just spray the 2 bolts before you take them off. Just be careful to not break the clip that locks the fuel pump in lol

Thats not the pump under ravis seats. Sending unit. Have u ever actually opened it?

Sending unit!!!! I knew it was not the fuel pump i took it out and matched it with the fuel pump i just got and they look nothing alike. I don't possibly see how you can change the fuel pump in its location without dropping the tank.

Thanks guys..........

Your right, Under the seat is the sending unit NOT the pump. To change the pump you are going to have to drop the tank. You can do this on the ground with a jack but a hoist will make it much easier. I would recommend taking it to a shop and let them swap it out.

if the seller told u that the pump could be swapped out from under the rear seat, u were probably sold a 94+ pump which needs to be modded in order to fit 90-93 tegs. and u'll need new strap bolts, not straps.

your straps will be fine.. dont waste your time trying to unbolt the hangers unless u have a air gun and lots of penetrating oil, u can get new hanger bolts at honda for cheap if u breack them, but make sure u have them first or else your stuck for a night.. LOL.(i suggest just getting new ones) the pump should work. even if its froma 94+ all honda pumps are almost the same.. u might have to do a few minor mods.. but it will fit..

what fuel pump did u get? cause if its just a stock pump its not worth changing.

well, there are all pretty much the same in terms of function, but, the 94+ is physically smaller. so, ur right...the mods are minor, but, not nearly as simple as everybody thinks. i have a 94+ walboro in my DB2. look into spending an hour or two modifying it to fit

I'm pretty sure its a 90-93 pump, as he had put a tag on it with the witting "90-93" pump. And he said it came form his DA. He told me along with another integra DA owner that the fuel pump is located under the seat and is a ten minute job. Well obviously i know now it isn't.

"what fuel pump did u get? cause if its just a stock pump its not worth changing."

I got a stock one form a member from here. I have to swap them because the one in my car is no good.

So you guys recommend me to just break the bolts off that hold the straps and buy new ones from Honda to replace them? Because the bolts are Rusty as hell and i fell like ill just break the whole thing if i turn it hard enough (the two that sit in the rear of the car).

Thanks.

ls/vtec 07-09-2008 11:31 PM

you can't really break them on purpose but its a 50/50 chance that they will break and they won't. Don't waste your time going to honda go to home depot they have the exact same ones for less then a doller
