fluidyne radiator.

my cooling system deceided to finally take a crap today while the car was getting saftied and e-tested.

does the stock fan clear on a fluidyne or koyo aluminum radiator? if not, what do i need? do i need to also loose my a/c?

also, does anyone have anything bad to say about aftermarket oem-style replacements, like the ones sold new for $100 ish at tigerjapanese or torontojdm?

SIC1 10-02-2007 10:30 PM

Jeff, DO NOT get the OEM style replacements, 2 of mine took a ---- on me in less than a year. even with the warranty do you want to keep on spending hours in your garage replacing it. If i just went with OEM/Kyoto, I would have saved a lot more time & money in the 1st place.

PM Trenell about the fluidyne issues as I am almost positive he is running the stock fan with no modifications. T has AC but I don't know if he put the recharge kit in yet.

SMOOTHE 10-02-2007 11:04 PM

The fluidyne rad does not accomodate the AC fan. You'll have to fab something up but it's not hard. The stock brackets that hold the rad in place that are attached to the upper rad support don't quite fit but I drew up some brackets to be fabbed up and they turned out well. This may be diff in your situation tho because of your JDM front end.

dc24me 10-02-2007 11:12 PM

i ended with one of these oem replacement ones for $143. canadian tire wanted $216 for theirs, carquest $199. meh, whatever. it's just temporary.... it fit fine, except the stupid hoses from canadian tire didn't fit.

Good Choice

Honestly the Fluidyne rad is a waste of money, if you look on ebay and grab the mishimoto one it's exactly the same without the cost.

I wouldn't pay the money again and buy the rad, sure it saved my motor when the cooling fan wasn't working and I was driving around not knowing it. Car never over-heated which is due to the rad, but it's a waste of money to be honest. I'd only put it on a tracked car and hopefully I get the teg out more next year than I did this year to atleast justify the cost of the rad in my teg.

Maybe you want to buy my Pentium 133 with 64MB ram with windows 95 for 500, that is like less then 1/3 of what I paid retail.

Jeff where did you get your rad? I gotta keep my eyes and ears open for reasonblely priced rad cuz i have a feeling that one of them in either one of my cars is gonna crap out on me.

total japanese domestic motor a.k.a torontojdm. that was taxes included. after they did the pressure test, they found a crack on the top and one of the hoses. i was planning to replace it eventually, as it's original....

dc24me 10-05-2007 12:13 AM

if anyone cares, the canadian tire (prestone) hoses fit like crap, for the gsr anyway. the upper hose is too long and doesn't have the right bend in it. the lower hose sat on the bracket of the clutchpipe and didn't sit next to the ac lines like it did making a big enough kink. rather than trying to find some other ones from an autopart store like napa or carquest, i went to acura and they cost almost double. but they fit.

I can confirm this as well. I ended up cutting the top rad hose shorter on both ends and it removed most of the kink. For the bottom one I ended up cutting that one as well, then I used two zip ties and wrapped it around the clutch hardline bracket and used that to pull it away from the clutch line. I can take a pic tomorrow if needed.

when i first bought my car, the rad went the next day. since then, i was running one of those $100 replacements and it's been good for atleast 4 years. now i have one of those duel core civic or delsol 1/2 rads (aftermarket) and temps are great. if this one takes a crap i'm going to order one of those mushimoto ones from ebay (not mushimoto ZX tires! :P)

SIC1 10-05-2007 03:21 AM

If anything goes with the car.. I hope it's the actual frame. Integras FTL

dc24me 10-05-2007 05:32 PM

okay, i've been thinking about why it exploded when it did. when i changed the coolant, i put on my arc 1.3 kg/cm2 cap on because the cap on the car might have been original. i didn't want to spend the money on a new one and it was lying around. i guess the radiator was already on it's way out to the shitter when the top blew apart because it couldn't handle the higher pressure. when i was removing it, the upper inlet cracked off.

i bought both a sending unit and a sensor today. acura north toronto ti discount ftw! guy at the counter hooked it up when they didn't have one of the sensors in stock, but called sisley and got it over within 20 minutes or so.

it kinda sucks that even though the us dollar is at or near parity, parts are still twice as much here.

for the first time (4th visit) i did not see tom there. (i hope your having a good day off)

xplizitremix 10-05-2007 05:52 PM

FLuidyne ftw

in an integra?

i'm glad i threw $500 (rad+ fans) less at the car for a cooling system that's fine what the car is going to be used for. at least the cooling system is now pretty much up to factory spec. i also am on the fence about keeping my a/c and there are complications with going with the fluidyne.

not to mention that's $500 more towards something else really cool on the car i can justify.

dc24me 10-07-2007 04:57 PM

i pulled off the connector for the sending unit, stripped a piece of wire and made a little loop, stuck it into the connect and grounded it to the chassis. i put the igniton into II and like the manual said, the needle jumped to hot. swapped the sending unit and everything and gauge is working perfectly now.
