I have a 91 teg and i would like to fill in the sunroof and also do some stitch welding to stiffen it up. has anyone done this before or have any advie/pics if you have?

Thanks

You can buy a carbon fibre insert to take the glass out to atleast reduce weight.. as for reinforcing the roof, I'm not a welder someone else might have that answer.

You have 3 choices....

1. You can take sheetmetal and use that you fill up the hole.
2. You can use the carbonfibre sheet already suggested.
3. Weld a new roof on your car.

1 & 2 are the cheaper alternative, however it won't have the crossbeams found on an OEM roof. I've asked about this as well. I actually called CarAid to inquire about this as well. He said that option 3 will be about 8 bills. He also said that he can bond some crossbeams for option 1 &v2 which will help with supporting from flexing.

If you plan on welding in a roll cage or roll bar, then don't worry about it the crossbeams.

For the stitchwelding services... I don't know about that, if you find a place, and have it done, please post it b/c I would love to know as well.

Yeah, JustinDM is right. While you can fill in the hole so it doesn't look like you have a sunroof.. or have a carbon fibre insert.. there is still no rigidity in the roof really, infact probably less with the glass gone and sunroof hardware...

so.. IMO I've thought about the same things as both of you guys and removing the sunroof for weight, looks and reinforcement.. I just came to terms with it and.. well.. I call it a MOONROOF. ;)

all the welding i can do myself. i have have looked the inside of the car over and pretty much got the rear end figured out. havent taken the front fenders off yet to check that out.

i would like to get a rollcage in. i dont have acces to a pipe bender... any one know where to get a generic cage?

looks like i may need to document this project
