exhaust white smoke & b18b1 head question
so i got my car running after a couple years on jack stands...
this was back in aug oil change, coolant flush, tranny flush... started up fine, and i've been starting it up regularily since then finally i got wheels/tires, changed brakes and got car back on ground to drive last weekend i let it idle up to operating temperature, then took it around the block (a small crescent).. white smoke started coming out a bit.. drove around a second time, and when i backed into driveway the smoke was billowing over the front passenger window...... now i know.. i've read this could be headgasket... or cracked head the spark plugs look fine, no extra unburnt liquid on them or anything compression test came out 150/145/150/155 so not too much variation (done last night on cold engine, so results a bit low, but consistent) i don't have the resources offhand for a leakdown test this is leading me to believe the cracked head part.... when i started up car last night a lot of white smoke was still coming straight out of exhaust, and it did smell a little sweet.. pure white, no blue this also leads me to a second question: if t's a cracked head, i'll need to get another... and if i get another which would be best for a b18b1 engine? what provides better flow? another tidbit of info for this: head was decked/shaved.. i have 10:1 je pistons, so there's been a bit of work.. thinking what could still fit well with this application? thanks |
