Engine problem need a solution please help

PROBLEM

drove my 95 4dr ls on the highway and when i got home the car felt like it was studdering, got a few people to check it out and all assumed it needed a tune up, so i got the plugs wires and oil change done after that didnt start up anymore. and then realized the 3rd cylinder has no pressure

THINGS TRIED
-did spark test
-tryed a different distributer and cap
-checked fuel pump
-pressure test on all cylinder, cylinder 3 no pressure
tryed some test i read up on by dropping oil down cylinder from spark plug hole to seal the ring and did pressure test again still no pressure

THING TOLD BY OTHERS
-blown cylinder
-dead valve
-go recycle your car and get another
-drop a new motor in

anyone had this problem b4 or have any solutions that would help me solve this issue thats affordable?

A new engine seems like the best option or rebuild good luck

how many kms on that engine???
if its high kms then i see no point in spending a couple hundred to fix it when for a couple hundred moreyou could get a new motor

Did you notice any metal shavings in the oil when you changed it?

I would agree, losing compression is quite serious, and you're probably better off looking at a new motor. Every dollar you sink into your old one is less you're spending on the new one!

My vote is b20!

probably a chipped valve. replace the engine or just the head.

i had the same thing happen to my beater.

If you have no pressure (or compression) in one cylinder, then all the other things will not make it regain it's compression. You've got either: a broken valve, hole or chip in the piston, worn out piston rings, or a blown head gasket.

Most likely, you need to replace your engine. You can find replacement engines for pretty cheap if you look around. You can buy imported engines with about 60-80k on them for decent prices.

Yes I have seen complete B18 motors in the $300 range, you have already spent close to $100 or more on the tuneup, so I would swap the motor at this point. Only thing is if you can't do it yourself or with some help, a mechanic would charge a lot to do the remove and re-install.

AcuratePaul 03-21-2011 08:44 PM

^^^ not true mechanics don't charge much for swapping b series one of the easiest swaps. Mechanics usually charage around 300-500 marker.

I guess it depends on what you consider to be a lot. For me $500 is good chunk of cash.

P.S. I have also seen quotes in the $800 range as well.

$300-$500 in JUST labour costs???? Ouch! DIY ftw! ;)

I'm sure some members on here would help you do it for $50 and some beer...lol.
