Engine Oil dissapearing? HELP.
Hey Guys,
My last oil change only about 1 L came out the oil pan. So about 2-3 weeks after my oil change, i decided to check the dip stick, and it showed less then half the oil was left. I'm wondering where the oil is going? can i be burning oil that quickly? and no there aren't any oil stains on my driveway. Thats where i'm confused, because if the oil isn't there or dripping on the floor where the hell could it be going? Btw i'm getting about 400km to a tank of gas, if someone could shed some light on this, i'd appreciate that. Thanks in Advance. |
Sounds like its burning it since you say it doesn't leak.
-and yes, its possible to burn "that" much oil, it pretty much depends on the condition of the motor and driving conditions. A compression test/leakdown test should reveal where the problem lies. |
Thanks for the info, anybody else feel free to chime in with your opinion.
Btw how much does a compression test/leakdown test cost usually? |
Compression test costs.... as much as the tool ....
http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/vehic...n-testing.html crappy tire/parts source etc has them. |
did you run your hand over your rear bumper above the exhaust?
Do you drive your car hard?
No i didn't jeff, but i do notice umm some black powder or sut kind of ------ out all over the rear bumper. Why what does that mean?
And to KleenGiz'R no i don't really drive my car hard at all. |
you're burning oil. maybe the oil control rings? is this on your da?
wow i'm burning lots of oil, and its pretty werid its all of a sudden. no its not on my da
definetly burning oil, i was burning that much back when i had my prelude...there could be a bunch of problems prolly best to get it checked out or else you could smoke your motor sooner or later
sounds like oil burning to me.... my old civic was the same way.
look at the bright side, its the perfect reason (well, almost perfect) for an engine swap, especially with the CDN Dollar situation.:yeah: |
1 litre in 2 weeks is a huge amount, you should be able to see/smell it easily
just look at your exhaust . if you have black liquidy stuff at the tip of it ,
ye u then burning oil!. try using bardahl |
Yea, definately burning it. Or could it be that one of those crooks who steal oil for a living? I hate those people. Thats the only other thing I can think of...
i guess i'm burning lots of oil, i'm going to get it checked out soon. Maybe the compression or leak down test can figure something out, thanks for all the input guys.
if your still driving the thing, stop by canadian tire and pick up a can of restore. it might help a bit...
piston rings or valve seals. make sure the pcv isint stuck open. most shops charge 1 hour labour for the leak down so between 60-80

could be thru the valve guides too if it wuznt ones mentioned in the top. try using a higher viscosity oil with a full bottle of lucas next oil change.
valve seals.
it could be that your car is burning oil . Its normal for tegras over 175000km . use lucas with when doing an oil change
does lucas really work? and usefully even with full syntic?
lucas is supposed to be one of the best products out there
I hear good things about AMSOIL also.
VTEC burns oil. period.
Anyone know how much a japanese Type R engine is going for these days? More horsepower? Anyone doing RSX Type R motor in integras.. how much those going for? Curious :) |
I recently bought a type r motor
hey, it cost me 4250, but you can pick one up from tiger for 4200. that is motor and lsd transmission.
just do your own compression test using the rubber hose through the spark plug hole, screw it in, check the compression, and that should alert you as to whether its piston rings or valve seals.... u better hope its only valve seals lol
the specs for compression are as follows: 92-93 b18a1 nominal: 199 psi minimum: 135 psi max var: 28 psi 92-93 b17a nominal: 199 psi minimum: 135 psi max var: 28 psi gen 3 94-01 b18b1 nominal: 199 psi minimum: 135 psi max var: 28 psi 94-01 b18c1 nominal: 270 psi minimum: 135 psi max var: 28 psi 97-01 b18c5 nominal: 270 psi minimum: 135 psi max var: 28 psi |
