Ecu!

Hey guys. Im kind of new to the import scene and im trying to get some information on ecu's. I have a 93 integra gsr 1.7 L VTEC, im under the impression that it has a p61 computer????? im planning on doing some work to it over the winter and i have a buddy getting rid of a P28 chipped ecu. will that work in my car? HELP! Thx!!

better yet since imma noob at this
can you tell me please what does a chipped ecu do ?

and why would i even considering getting one
like what is the benefits?

can't remember if it will work or not. but i've heard a lot of nasty stuff about pre-programmed ecu's

they aren't specific to your car which is kinda the whole point of running a tweaked ecu.

your better off getting one programmed to YOUR car, otherwise you run the risk of dumping too much fuel or too little.

the proper way is to bring your car to a dyno and program the ecu accordingly. otherwise if you do it right away you will just be fighting with your settings with any mod you add, such as manifold, air intake and whatnot.

and to answer dima. a chipped ecu changes the fuel map (how much), redline, vtec etc. to fit what your engine is modified. ie. if you do a build that can handle more fuel and higher rpm, you get a chipped ecu to take advantage of it. (to put it really simply)

p28 will work fine, will need a chip and software. i am not sure about the 1.7L gsr's but i know newer ones have weird throttle bodies which could be used when you add another thing to the ecu to control the 2nd butterfly<?>
now benefit of chipping ecu is you get the car to run better/more efficiently. lets say you add a cam, your stock computer will treat it as a stock cam, while it will not operate the same way due to different lift etc...so by chipping and tuning you can correct this.

i think i should be looking at ecu's later on
its to early for me now because i had the car for only couple of weeks
