Drove through water

hey guys, need some help here...

i was stupid enough to drive through a puddle of water, my car was so low and the water was really high. i didnt realize it was that high until it was too late. The teg died and i had to push it out of the water. i tried to start it and it sounded like the belt is slipping and it wouldnt start at all. i dont have another set of eyes to look at it when i try to start it.

anyone have any idea what it could be??

Re: Drove through water

forgot to add, i had the key in the 2nd click while pushing it out of the water, so im guessing gas is pumping the whole time. dont know if this info would help...

Re: Drove through water

uhhh ohhh... do you have a CAI?

Spike 08-10-2011 06:22 AM

Re: Drove through water

Yeah you most likely got water into the engine and locked the engine. Pull the plugs and try to crank the engine again and hope it cranks.

AcuratePaul 08-10-2011 10:01 AM

Re: Drove through water

Sounds like you sucked up some water. Do what Spike said.

KevRS 08-10-2011 10:25 AM

Re: Drove through water

yea i have a CAI, so just take out all the plugs out and just crank it?

Same thing happened to me 2 years ago..

this is how it turned out :(

I also had a cold air intake, after I ran into a deep deep puddle I turned off the car ASAP
but it was too late, the damage was done.

The car would still start but sounded like a disaster..

Re: Drove through water

thanks everyone....
i really dont like the look of those pics... lol
i just did the pull out the plug thing, water was shooting out for a while... i use a flashlight to look in the sparkplug holes and looks like there's still some water in there, i just left the plugs out to see if it would dry up *i hope* or is there any other way to dry it out??

Re: Drove through water

That's the problem with CAI. They sit low to the ground so water is not your friend. That's why if running one, you always get the water bypass that way water has a harder time getting into the engine.

Yes getting water into the engine can result in replacing the engine because of the pistons seizing in the block.

Re: Drove through water

hey spike.

so should i go and try to start the car now?

Vida 08-10-2011 07:03 PM

Re: Drove through water

You have Hydrolocked.

Chances are the car isn't starting again. Just keep getting as much water out by cranking with the plugs out. But if nothing happens still, you're gonna need another engine

Re: Drove through water

Remove head, inspect the bore for damage. If she's cranking then it hasn't seized which is a good sign. Drain the oil also, it may have gotten past the rings and into the oil. Water on crank bearings results in instant failure.

Re: Drove through water

hey DTP,
i wish i have the space to do that... but sadly i live in a condo and its not allow to work on cars...

i managed to get all of the water out today, and then i realize there is no sparks... do u guys have any special tricks in checking the plug wires, cap and the dizzy??

sorry for all those stupid questions, i tried to search online but i really couldnt find anything that i understand... im a noob at all these!!

thanks everyone

Re: Drove through water

How are you testing for spark? pull the plug out, jam it in the wire end and hold it against valve cover.

Does the engine spin over?

KevRS 08-12-2011 02:25 PM

Re: Drove through water

yes the engine does turn... i tried doing that with the spark plug, and no spark....

any other ways to check?

Re: Drove through water

Well, then I think its safe to say your distributor is no good. If you know anybody with an integra who would be kind enough to allow you to test a working distributor on your engine, it would be the best/easiest way. Takes 2minutes to swap it.

KevRS 08-13-2011 10:58 AM

Re: Drove through water

yea thats the problem, those whom i noe has a B20 and a GSR, and mine is just a RS... so i dont think their distributor will work on mine...

anyone help me out?

D.T.P 08-13-2011 03:21 PM

Re: Drove through water

As long as b20 is the same OBD then it will work.

KevRS 08-15-2011 08:13 PM

Re: Drove through water

ok thanks DTP, i tried the the from B20, it started for maybe 1/2 a sec, then it didnt start again... and when i checked the plugs, its wet, and smells like gas...

do u guys think changing the oil would help? or what else can i do??

i really dont know what else to do now...

Spike 08-15-2011 09:00 PM

Re: Drove through water

Yes change the oil, because there is most likely water in there, which is not good at all for the engine. The fuel smell is most likely because its flooded. Dry the plugs and put a few drops of oil in each cylinder and then put the plugs back in a try to start it again. Because of water and fuel flooding it, it washes all the oil off the cylinders and the oil helps seal the rings.

Try doing what I just said to do.

Re: Drove through water

:O trying to start the engine with the old oil still?

OH LAWD!

AcuratePaul 08-17-2011 04:43 PM

Re: Drove through water

If it's a Honda motor it will start eventually lol.

Change oil get maybe an air hose and try to get all the water out of the motor and try again.

oh crap man that sucks but good luck getting her going again

KevRS 08-28-2011 03:21 PM

Re: Drove through water

i finally managed to change the oil today and put a few drops of oil in the spark plug hole last week. but when i try to start it again, it didnt start... and i realized theres no sparks, also i heard a little weird pop sound (like a drum sound) everytime i try to start

help me out guys, im so stressed over this

KevRS 08-30-2011 11:24 PM

Re: Drove through water

anyone???

D.T.P 08-31-2011 01:36 AM

Re: Drove through water

The reason I said change oil is because, water on the bearings would result in engine locking up.

The no spark issue, well, try getting a new/used/friends distributor. Once you have spark, it should start up.

Re: Drove through water

hey guys im out of ideas, gonna get it tow to a shop and get it check out...

but one question regarding towing... i will need a flatbed, do u guys know how much it would cost? it will be around 9-10km distance

im considering getting a CAA basic membership and just get the tow from them. does anyone know if they provide flatbed towing for basic membership??

what do u guys think?

AcuratePaul 09-13-2011 09:45 AM

Re: Drove through water

My friend has basic CAA and got a flatbed. But then again no other tow truck would work for his car so they had no choice.

gottalovetheteg 09-13-2011 11:06 AM

Re: Drove through water

With the Basic CAA membership you're basically only covered for 10KM then after that you gotta pay extra. Now with me, my car broke down twice and both times I needed a flatbed. Basically they said it was gonna cost me 20$ ontop of any kms that go over the 10 covered. But when they get there I just inform them that no one told me of this cost and that I've been waiting there for a good 2 hours (Which is usually the case, even though I tell them my car is low they still send a tow truck. By the time he figures out its too low and calls for a flatbed a few hours have gone by) So yes you can still get flatbed service, I guess it depends on the driver if he or she chooses to charge you, but I think with the Gold Membership you're covered.

D.T.P 09-14-2011 09:03 AM

Re: Drove through water

Go for gold membership, 4 tows unlimited distance. Always comes in handy.
