Do I need a new head gasket?

Hey there,

So I was taking a look at my engine the other day, this is on a 1991 integra GS, I noticed that around my head gasket I have a bit of what looks like coatings or rubber sticking out and I thought I saw a small drip of oil leaking from the head gasket. Is this a sign that I need to change my head gasket?

All help is appreciated, thanks.

Head gasket and rubber sticking out....

Do you mean the valve cover gasket? Because that would have rubber sticking out sometimes which is not necessarily bad...but if oil is dripping might be time to change. Quick fix 25-75$ depending what product you buy. Always recommend OEM.

Your head gasket is a metal gasket so there shouldn't be rubber. Head gaskets get pricey when it's time for a change.

Yea if its rubber its probably a valve cover gasket. very cheap fix. You can get it with the spark plug gaskets, and while you're at it might as well replace the cam seal. No more leaking oil :)

Some headgaskets have a thin rubber outline. but it would never stick out.

Valve cover gasket, is what's sticking out, most likely.

Though somewhat agree with pauls comment regarding oem, would not buy oem vc gasket myself. Strong believer in felpro...for half the price ;)
