creaking while breaking @ low speeds
 

I recently changed my rotors and pads on the front of my 96 RS. Before I did this my rotors were badly warped and my pads were FUBARD. I noticed this creaking/groaning sound when I had the old breaks on, now with the new set-up it seems to have become worse when the breaks start to get warm...mind you this creaking/groaning noise only happens when I'm at very low speeds (feathering the breaks 5-10km/h) when I do a hard break it is normal. I installed everything myself and I know it has been done correctly. the rotors are blanks and the pads are Raybestos ceramic. I have only had them on for about a week (when I first put them on they felt great and there was no noise) now it has become a lot worse. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

any movement in the wheel bearings??? Check to make sure your springs are ok as well.

sorry, I forgot to mention that my bearings were done about 1 month ago and I have sportech lowering springs that are in great shape.

had the same problem with the same pads..........low speed annoying noises. took me 3 weeks to get rid of.

My advice, take the shims off the pads and put a thin layer of silicone glue (yes silicone glue) on the back of each pad and put em back on. Raynestos shims are very noisy (vibrations) from some of the research I did and I found the idea about the glue from a friends mechanic.

so you are saying to glue the shims on? just making sure so i dont go doing something wrong, lol. Apparently it is a lot louder in the car because it vibrates inside. I had one of my buddies listen and he said that it was normal (he got similar pads for his truck). It is just really annoying, I also wanted to be sure that there was nothing else (more serious) wrong, this gives me a piece of mind. thanks. I think I'm going to wait a couple of weeks to do the glue thing b/c I am going to be doing the rear and I might as well do it all while I am in the mood.

I have the same problem right now. Same situation, I changed my front pads/rotos due to warpage of the previous rotors. I can pretty much gaurantee it's not the shims on the pads but its worth a try. The noise is too loud to be the shims. I've checked tie rods, wheel bearings, struts, cv axle, and ball joints, and the only thing I found was that my lower balljoint has play. So in the next few days I'll be doing my lower balljoint to see if it has anything to do with the noise.

I'm thinking it may just be the pads themselves, I checked my ball joints when I did my bearings and they were fine so im going to give it a couple of weeks before I do anything.

With out hearing the sound, I cant say, but i do remember how annoying it was when I did my brakes and they wouldnt stfu. No shims at all. you dont need them......just glue, and put em on ;)
