Coolant Time
 

Ok, so its that time again 30 000 clicks later and I have to change my coolant, I was just wondering where the bleeder bolt is on my engine block (B18B1) as this is the first time I am doing this, thanks.

As far as I know there is non. You can remove the drain in the rad, remove the return hose off the block and manually spin the engine around. Since pump is belt driven, it should get some of the coolant out.
Usually drainin the radiator is sufficient enough. Moreover, changing coolant every 30.000km is not needed. If it still looks ok and not too dirty, leave it. But again, that's just my opinion.

So just drain and fill is ok? just let the car run with the rad cap after to let all the bubbles escape.

You may get air bubbles in there. But here is the bolt you're reffering to. This in on a B18C1 or C5 so im not sure if it applies to our LS engines

A good thing to do is after you fill is to run the car with the radiator cap off until it reaches operating temp and massage the upper and lower rad hose until you get all the bubbles out. Or at least most of them.

LOL, I've got 244,xxx kms on my engine and the only time I changed the coolant was when I did the timing belt & water pump at 180k. Never needed to even top it up since. Coolant still looks perfectly clean. Also, it has NEVER gone past 1/3 on the temp gauge...

There really is no need to flush/replace the coolant every 30k if it's clean. Just keep it topped up.

You can change it if you really want to, but it's not necessary.

Well I might as well change it now since I got coolant, just one question. Do I need to flush out hte old stuff (I don't know what it was) and if so is it ok just to use a garden hose and then once it comes out clean form the drain plug just put the new stuff in? Any help is appriciated.

yea thats fine, you can flush it or just drain it... might as well flush it though. just make sure to bleed the system really well. I let mine idle/run for like an hour and a half to make sure every last air bubble was out...

Only concern with using water is wont there be some water leftover int he engine block which will ruin my 50/50 mix? And to bleed out mine I just leave the rad cap off and let it run right? Thanks

yea leave the rad cap off and continually put more coolant in there making sure its filled completely. As for the 50/50 ratio, mine right now it like 60/40 (water/coolant) so its not that big of a deal to get it exactly. My brothers lude has a 70/30 mixture

When I did the swap what i did was just remove the rad cap after topping it off turn on the car and let it run for like 20 min and just kept squeezing the upper rad hose to feel the tension on it till it was tight and no more air bubbles coming out.

BUt like a few people stated there is really no point in changing it, but since you have it and you want to go for it, all you have to remove is the plug at the bottom of the rad that is enough.

Done finally just one last question, I did flush it but I don't think I got it all because the coolant in my radiator looked a bit green (not the honda blue I put in) is it ok if green antifreeze(dunno the brand) is mixed with the honda blue? Anything to watch for? Or should I do it again...
