Coolant Temp gauge only getting up to 1/16 full.

I just bought my first teggy, just wondering whats up with the temp guage, im thinking maybe thermostat, fluids look good, not sure if this is the norm. cause most vehicles ive driven the temp sits at about 1/2 after its warmed up. please help.

Spydersniper9 02-11-2011 04:33 PM

start with a thermostat, your temp should be halfway, because its not warming up your also burning more fuel cause the computer thinks the engine is cold. a new one will run you in around 20$ i think, make sure you get a gasket with it aswell, and if your installing it make sure the jiggle pin in the new one is up so any air bubbles can pass through and surface when you top the coolant up.

^^ that and just let the car run with rad cap off. Make sure there are no bubbles. Just remove the cap when car is cold and not hot. Once no more bubbles come up, and fan has gone on twice, you're done.

Same problem here with my car for as long as I can remember. I'll try the thermostat myself.

It's not good for your engine to be run below optimal temperature. Should fix it as soon as you can.

Neon_Dave 02-12-2011 09:33 AM

Agreed, i'll look into it soon.

Thanks for all the help, getting her into the garage next weekend, so i'll have a look.

Also i'm looking for an exhaust system + headers. I want something that delivers performance, and nothing loud or high pitched. Just something clean with a nice low rumble, not sure what the protocol is on opening a new thread for this type of thing but you guys seem to know whats up. Any ideas? And where's the best place for part's and accessories in K-W/GTA? Or is the net the way to go.
New at this, but stoked on getting into it, any help is greatly appreciated.

I've had the same issue with mine since I got it. I had to bring it to two shops before they figured out it was in fact my thermostat. They said it was broken and stuck open. I had it replaced and now the gauge shows at about half.

Neon_Dave 02-16-2011 06:27 PM

We should all be glad that they tend to stick open rather than closed. Could be worse lol

Apexi WS2 cat-back seems to be a good popular choice. High quality system with a good sound.

holung 02-16-2011 10:26 PM

make sure to buy a winter thermostat or else in the winter the car will stay cold

Neon_Dave 02-16-2011 10:27 PM

Or an OEM Honda one.. lol

Vida 02-16-2011 10:33 PM

Winter thermostat? Say what?

3sgte@daspeedof 02-17-2011 12:45 AM

I think he means one that opens at a hotter temp. but I could be wrong

holung 02-17-2011 12:59 AM

yea theres ones that open at a colder temperature and ones that open at a higher temperature if you get the lower temperature one during the winter your car wont heat up very much

AcuratePaul 02-17-2011 05:57 AM

Only thing about those winter ones is once winters done it's still in your car lol.
