clutch problems

I think my clutch is pooched..
The other night i was at te 1/4 mile track, did a couple runs (14.095@97.9mph was my quickest), but as i was about to line up to do another, my clutch had other ideas.

My car is a 95 civ cx with a b18c5 with lsd tranny. with a centreforce stage 3 clutch. Not sure on how old the clutch is.

My clutch has absolutely no pressure until its like an inch from the floor. The pedal will just flop there anywhere from an inch from the floor, right til it is all the way out. I physically have to pull it out with my toe, there is no spring action pushing it out whatsoever. the pedal will stay wherever you leave it.

within the last track session or so, i have noticed that on occasion i would have to sort of pull out the clutch with my toe. it seemed like it was getting caught halfway between being depressed, and fully out.

So now i can NOT get it into gear when the car is running. (because i have no clutch). When the car is off, it goes into the gears fine, which makes me believe it is solely a clutch problem, not the tranny.

So do i need to replace my clutch? or is it something else like my clutch cable?

heres the link to my car

any opinions would be appreciated thanks

i could be wrong but i think you eather have a gasget gone on your clutlch slave cylnder. or the hole thing is pooched.. try pulling the peddle up and then pumping the clutch.. if it comes back for a sec you have a leek..

Try adding some dot3 to your brake fluid and see if your getting some more pressure on the clutch pedal. Once you put it in, work the fluid thru and see if its pushing back at you. If so, its prolly your deposit is low of one thing, you have air in your master cylinder and need to bleed it out, or your master cylinder needs to be replaced. ORRRR it could be your clutch where the spring is messed or something is wrong with your throttle plate.

adding dot3 to my brake fluid will affect my clutch?

anyone know of any good honda mechanics between Sarnia and TO? London maybe?

Thanks for the tips guys!

Usually with these cars they are hydro. and the clutch feeds off of the brake fluid so yes it will if your levels are low.

DJINFERNO806 07-07-2008 03:56 PM

ya its a hydraulic clutch system hence there will be no cable going to the tranny. I believe there is a spring underneath your clutch pedal that rebounds the pedal. Mine has recently gone bye bye, maybe yours has broken as well. Could also be pressure plate teeth are facked. Either way if it cant go into a gear then just change the clutch.

I'm in the dark here.. Are you sure there isn't a separate clutch master cylinder with reservoir?

I wouldn't go topping up on brake fluid unless its showing below the min line or the next time you do your brakes the stuff is going to end up everywhere.

DJINFERNO806 07-07-2008 04:05 PM

well integras have a seperate clutch master cylinder i know that 100%. Wouldnt the civics be the same.

I'm pretty sure any car ever built with a hydraulic clutch has an independent system for it.

Thats why I was thrown off at the suggestions to top up his brake fluid.

Kloos_teg 07-07-2008 05:40 PM

yes it does.. if you locating near london i will come have a look at it. to fill it on integras it is the smaller one to the right of the brake booster.. i had an mx6 that did the same thing.. you are loosing pressure or out of fluid or the clutch cyclinder is gone..i used to work at honda for about a year so i may no a thing or 2 if i look at it

It's most likely your clutch slave because that wouldn't be the clutch, release or pilot bearing those all lead to other things. Your obliviously leaking it, or its empty which could happen. (It is common for the piston inside the slave to give out over time). First thing i would do it check it is its low, If it isn't pick up a clutch slave/cylinder on a local board or scrap yard they usually go for around 50-80 bucks. I've done i think 2 or 3 cars with the same problem and it ended up being the clutch slave.

Also if it ends up being low on fluid you will have to fill it up and pump the air out of the system
Same goes for installing another one

i picked up some dot3 after work yesterday, opened up the hood, and there are two resevoirs. One brake, one clutch. Clutch one was empty. so i topped her up, worked the clutch for a couple minutes and started to get some pressure back. I didnt have time to take it out for a spin or check for leaks. Next time im out il make sure to bring the dot3 with me in case there is a leak.
Thanks alot for the suggestions guys.

PS.
Kloos teg, i might hold you to that offer if theres a problem. Thanks dude!

Kloos_teg 07-08-2008 07:34 AM

FYI..dont forget that you still may have to bleed the clutch master, depending on how low it got there could be air in it.

I told you guys it was the res. and that it was empty. In civic's the clutch feeds of the Brake fluid line.

Your going to have to bleed out the system there because there is going to be WAY to much air in the system that will cost you like $80 and takes lik an hourif you have a mechanic to do it for you or you can do it yourself for free.

had my spring outta my 92DA w/ cab;le tranny liked it w/o it. iv had 1 of my springs on the clutch come out and got stuck between the flywheel and pressureplate. 10 clutches later they found 1 for my jdm j1 tranny

bluewater87 07-09-2008 07:07 AM

so i admit my clutch fluid resevoir was completely empty.
I topped it up, and started to get pressure back.
Whats the deal with bleeding the air out?
Is it a must? what happens if i dont? ???
Thanks

Kloos_teg 07-09-2008 07:18 AM

there will be air in the lines and you wont be able to get full pressure.. the bleader screw is right buy the header youll needc a felxable tube so you dont spray fluid all over the engine bay.. also you will need some one to pump the clucth while some one is working the screw..

want some real advise?

take a look under your dash.. look on the firewall area where the clutch rod comes in from through the firewall..(you might have to pull the insualtion back... it should be wet, with brake fluid.. trust me.. more than likely your clutch master blew.. common honda problem..

bluewater87 07-10-2008 11:31 AM

im gonna go check the ---- out tonight and see whats up. For those who weren't sure if the clutch resevoir is the same as the brake resevoir, take a look at my sig. you can just see the clutch resevoir at the top right of the picture. The brake resevoir has the spoon band around it

ps. Anyone have any idea where the clutch bleeder screw is? by the header?

JDM_gsR 07-10-2008 01:49 PM

It's part of your slave cylinder. Located to the left of your header bolted up on the tranny.

Here's a pic.
