Clay Baring the car on friday, any tips (trenell)?
 

I will be clay baring my car on friday and i was wondering if anyone had any tips that would help the job go smoother/quicker??

First buy some car wash soap and a good wash mit if you don't have one. Then start washing your car, but not in direct sunlight. After you finish washing, don't even rinse the car, grab the clay bar and just start rubbing at one section till you get the whole car done. You'll know that the car is done, when all of it feels super smooth. With the left over pieces that are dirty you can use it on your windows. Oh when the clay bar gets dirty just fold it over, with the dirty part being inside.

So

1)Wash Car
2)Clay bar right away (if the car dries, before you get to that part, just use the wash mitt to re soap that part)
3)Wash Car again
4)Rinse car
5)Dry car

Then it's up to you if you want to add wax or not.

Or use the quick detailer that usually comes with the bar (if Meguire's or Mother's). The key is to keep the bar lubed... you don't want to be dry-rubbing.

Trenell - I never thought of using the bar on the windows... removes deep-in grime?

Or you could use the quick detailer.That and hard water spots. You could even use it on ur rims.

i love clay, but was too lazy to finish the car, i did half the hood, on a hot day..it sucked ass..but it works great...when you first start, you feel all the rough spots with the clay, but then it just gets really smooth after...makes you wonder what kind of garbage was in your paint!!!

so if I'm using the quick detailer to lube the clay bar, should I dry the car after I wash for the first time?

The quick detailer is used as a lube. So if your washing the car just leave the soap on the car, it just saves you time.

But to answer your question yes, dry the car then use the quick detailer to lube the clay bar.

Can u do my car to while ur at it lol I I spend 3hours to only get a half asssed look to my car I never tried the clay bar I just would rather a new paint job to fix the swirl marks.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but clay doesn't take out swirls... it removes baked on goo and industrial fallout -- the stuff that doesn't come off with a sponge or mit.

yeah clay bar only takes out the fallout and any other stuff that has bonded to your paint that wont come out with regular washing... it does wonders though... my front end took me forever the first time i clayed it... seemed like there was so much crap on the bumper :| just remember to keep it lubed with the detailer...

swirl remover will be the one taking out swirls...

No correction here you are right. I was just complaining about my paint in the same thread. I do wanna try the clay bar though then a good wax job with the simoniz polisher.

If your waxing your car and it has a lot of scratches, the wax will bring them out more, unless it's a cleaner wax which will fill the scratches up. Bad thing about that is, as soon as the wax wears off they come back.

Also the best way to get scratches out is to polish your car before you wax.

sounds like i need to clay bar before i apply my klasse...

i have a patch of none clearcoat on my 4runner for some reason...

hrm.... god.... washing the 4runner takes 2x the time then the teg and waxing it is such a bitch.. SOOO MUCH SURFACE AREA!!!

i'd need 2 clay bars...
