check engine light came on

my car is in storage and I decided to start it up today. The battery was dead and it needed a boost. When the car started the check engine light came on. Im guessing my o2 sensor is wasted. I dont wanna spend $95 at the dealer just to read a code that takes 30 seconds, so does anyone know where I can pull my code for free???

I dont want to do the paper clip way either

thanks

Im sure bryan knew what you meant by the paper clip way...out of curiousity any particular reason you dont want to do the paper clip method?

either way, unless you know someone who has access to one of the obd2 readers I would assume youd have to pay. try some smaller shops....i knew some guys at a sears garage that did it for like $30. $95 at the dealer...damn.

yea i gave in and tried jumping it but i couldnt get it too work...its a constant solid light

I can pull the code and erase it for you, with my Honda Tester, pulls directly into your obd2 port. $25.00

Thank you, Alex. I've diagnosed many CEL codes using the "paper clip" method so yes, I DO know what I'm talking about.

You want the easiest method to figure your problem and you even KNOW the method to do so, but you don't want to do it? And I'm the ignorant one?

Good luck with your problem there, Joe.

i've also used the paper clip method on well over 20 cars now...works every time...but hey if you wanna pay someone to do it for you, its your money.

If you didn't have the "Check Engine" light on before storing your car, the reason for your "Check Engine" would most likely be due to a weak battery that needs to be replaced.

I hardly drove my car this summer and the battery would drain in a few weeks, so I'd charge it up and it'd be ok, but when my battery was on it's last legs the car started then the "check engine" light came on.

As soon as I replaced the battery, the "check engine" light never came back on.

I picked one up from Costco for less than $50.

you could get one from the battery pimp but you'd have to wait till he get back from partying it up with !xobile

i'm confused. you want to check your ecu for free but you don't want to do the paper clip trick. then you call engsr ignorant? :willy:
