check engine light

New to integras so a quick question hopefully nothing to worry about. My wifes 2001 integra check engine light flashes every time she starts it but then goes away. She thinks that when she first got the car the light did not flash for as long a time as it is doing know. It flashes for about 5 times after you start it and all the other lights go away and than the check engine light also goes away.

thanks.

Pretty sure all integras do that upon start up. I know mine does it when I first put in the key and start her up. Nothing to worry about.

Cel is supposed to go on solid when key is in on position but engine is off, then disappear. If light flashes when car is running, that means a misfire. Though it should store a code and leave cel light on.

What you should do is check if any codes are stored. Now for life of me I cannot remember whether the service plug is on driver side or passenger, so somebody please contribute. (Pretty sure its under the glove box right in the corner). Either way, once you find it, (most likely in a green rubber boot if not removed), get a paper clip or piece of thin wire and just short it out. Once that's done, turn ignition on but do NOT start the car. Watch the cel light for blinks. Short blinks are 1s and long blinks are 10s. If anything shows up, report back. Otherwise ignore it.

It is under the glove box on the passenger side.
