Catalytic problems again

Ok.. heres the deal.. two years ago i "upgraded" to a magnaflow catalytic converter. Roughly 6 months after having it installed i started to get the 67 code meaning the cat was working inefficiently, then the catalyst inside began to rattle huge. I went and purchased a direct fit replacement, now one year later... i still have the code and yet another catalytic converter is fried and rattling like pop cans dragging under my car. The car in question is a 2000 acura integra LS, only engine type mods are intake, header and exhaust. My car was fine with the stock catalytic converter. I cant see why my car would be dumping fuel and frying the cats....??? From what i understand code 67 has nothing to do with your A/F. Is it possible my timing is off???? what other reason is there that this keeps happening. I just dont want to buy another cat and have it crap out before my e-test in november. Any help or info is appreciated.

thanks

those high flow cats have a high fail rate.

try a cat from carsound maybe?

koopdogg 03-09-2007 06:34 PM

it was a carsound cat.. the second one was a generic oem fit. I think the carsound flowed too much and possibly caused the secondary o2 to fail. But that being said it shouldnt be dumping fuel from that factor. Could my timing be off? plugs dont really show any symptoms of unburnt fuel.. im baffled

I am using 2.25 magnaflow cat. I passed emissions with no problem.

Its not the emissions im scared of... my catalytic converter is burnt out! Second one! i want to find out why this keeps happening man.

Get your car tuned or go back to stock.

I have the same highflow cat and when I drove around untuned it rattled like crazy. The matting actually broke away from the wall. Once I rebuilt my motor and got it tuned, the rattling went away for the most part and stopped further damage of my cat breaking up inside.

FYI - A intake and exhaust system DO change the factory tune.

i have the high flo magnaflow cat too, and i havnt had any problems at all. and I burned really rich for the longest time. you should stop hitting road kill. and then your cat wont get messed up

How can i get my car tuned? other than regular maintenance i have no way to alter a/f maps or anything like that. Theres not much point in me sinking a couple hundred bucks into an apex controller or somthing like that. What other options do i have? Could the secondary o2 be messing up the primary sensors reading? could my timing be off? i got my timing belt changed last year and my cap and rotor replaced all at the same time. I wonder if the distributor was moved and changed my timing. I'm pretty sure a stock cat from acura will cost many hundreds of dollars....
