Carsound cat done after 6 months????

has anyone else had this problem????? i just had this thing installed last fall before my e-test, everything was fine until about a week ago i noticed a rattling under the car... i thought its probably just the heatshield clanging.. took it to muffler shop and they say my catalytic is toast ... already????? ahhhhhhhhh luckily i still have the box and the receipt... hopefully its warrantied

Dave YO Apr 10, 2006 07:18 PM

ive had problems with aftermarket cats.. did you heat it up? exhaust leak pre cat would heat that thing pretty good

koopdogg Apr 10, 2006 07:48 PM

no heat or leaks as far as i know.... is there a recommendation of a different cat i should use ?

tdot2gteg Apr 10, 2006 07:51 PM

dude.. thats what i already got.. and it crapped out

WildoutWhiteGSR Apr 10, 2006 09:51 PM

my carsound rattles like a bitch as well, Dave and I were just talking about that yesterday actually.

Oh and they won't warrenty it

koopdogg Apr 11, 2006 06:18 PM

ok.. i know i was wrong in doing this but i posted on "team-integra" basically everyone says its cause my car wasnt tuned and it dumped fuel causing the cat to burn out... I think tuning a car with a header and intake maybe be unecessary as the one dude telling me to do so, spouted off saying he had that setup untuned for a couple years and had no problems. HOw do i find out what in fact was the cause... if it was a bad o2 or if infact it was dumping fuel???

Frost YO[SMCR] Apr 11, 2006 06:30 PM

nope had a hiflo carsound cat for 2 years.

It could be any of the above. I crapped out an 02 sensor by putting in high octane (when the gas station ran out of low). You should get a high CFM unit if you have some mods, I believe it was part number 94001 (not sure).

WildoutWhiteGSR Apr 12, 2006 09:00 AM

carsound has many different models of cats, so while some won't have any problems, others will.

It's a gamble when you buy one

born2board69 Apr 12, 2006 09:08 AM

yea, today i had a chance to get under my car and look for an exhasut leak, turns out my cat is toast. Where the pipe comes out of the cat itself it has started to leak from there, i dont know how i can fix it. Should i have a flexpipe inbetween the cat and header?

WildoutWhiteGSR Apr 12, 2006 09:14 AM

Take it to a exhaust shop and see what they recommend for you.

BTW finished those COTM questions yet?

born2board69 Apr 12, 2006 09:18 AM

o yea sorry dude, they are on my computer that doesnt have internet at the moment, right when i get home today i will save em on a disk and send them over, i completly forgot about it since i havent been on that computer for a few weeks.

the one i had was 94005... same thing you recommend but with a 2.25 in and out

wait a sec. if you had the 94005 2.25 IN, it doesn't have an 02 sensor inlet. Isn't your car OBDII?

And i got the 94006 2.5" (no problems thus far) for my OBDI

How much did you pay for your cat?

Dave YO Apr 12, 2006 06:30 PM

alex bring your car to me i'll fix it. i have to give you back your header and airbox anyway
text my cell on sat

i paid 103 including tax then extra for installation.. they weld an o2 bung on it.

Also.. after an entire week of clanging my cel light went on so tomorrow im gonna pull the code and see what she says

get another with a 02 inlet already. hottexhaust.com for the cheapest prices, local and free shipping HTH

koopdogg Apr 13, 2006 02:05 PM

Ok ... these are my choices... since my cat is toast i can either

1. Purchase another aftermarket 2.25inch cat and get a tune up hoping it wont fail and put up with the eventual cel 67 code.

2. Purchase and oem direct fit cat that is 2 inch instead of 2.25 like the rest of my exhaust but possibly suffer some bottleneck, and hopefully no engine light.

what should i do?

Drewspeed Apr 13, 2006 02:15 PM

Don't have a part no. but my 3" Carsound failed after 1 year. But it was attributed to the car running rich (was using an FMU) New one was installed, FMU removed for proper EMS and never had the problem after that.

Old unint was sent back for warranty through the installer but never heard back from them.

koopdogg Apr 13, 2006 02:37 PM

i dont care about performance anymore... i just want something thats problem free

born2board69 Apr 13, 2006 03:59 PM

^^^^stock.

WildoutWhiteGSR Apr 14, 2006 01:50 AM

fyi just because it's failing doesn't mean that it's not doing its job. It's just annoying.

koopdogg Apr 14, 2006 02:51 AM

the rattling is unbearable.. sounds like im dragging a can behind my car

WildoutWhiteGSR Apr 14, 2006 12:17 PM

grab a exhaust clamp and put it over the cat, then start tightening it until it goes away....that's what I plan on doing when I stop being so lazy
