Car stalls when you give it gas

So last night Trenell, Fuzzy and I were trying to fix that little TPS sensor problem, we switched TPS sensors and MAP sensor at the same time. Took off everything and put everything back the way it was. After playing around with the Idle we finally got it set to the right RPM. TPS was also set to 0.45V (recommended setting on the helms). So after we put everything back together, car starts fine, but once you give it some gas, it hesitates a little bit goes up to around 3K RPM and just stalls.

The gas pedal also feels way too soft and flimsy, and the motor takes time for it to react to the pedal.

Anyone have any ideas as to whats happening with the car?? Its not drivable at all and its even worse when I had the TPS Sensor code and the car was still driveable.

We were up till 5am last night and were all out of ideas..maybe you guys might know whats going on..

EDIT-I checked all the fuses in the engine bay and inside the car..nothing blown.

HELP!! :(

Your helms should have a diagnostic chart, follow it step by step.

Are you sure the parts you installed were compatible? OBDII is a strange demon, and any incompatible parts (ESPECIALLY sensors) will make it act funny.

Put the old sensor back one at a time and see if that helps.

I'm free tonight if you need a spare set of hands to help out...

BTW: Given the symptoms, I'd start with the TPS.

We switched back and forth between sensors, about 6 times. Old and new both didn't make a difference. Were lost at what to do now. No codes are being thrown at all. We can get it up to 3k rpm then it dies anything after that.

So lost right now.

Stupid questions:

Did you reset the ECU?

Are the connectors on in the right direction? Forget to plug in a connector?

Forget a vaccuum line somewhere?

Any odd noises?

Forget a vaccuum line somewhere?Again, possible since it was late

Any odd noises? yes, it sounds like there is a leak somewhere and the car idles noticeably louder

Some answers. :p

We'll try and put the old sensors back on, but we've done that a few times and yes the new sensors we put on are off an OBDII car.

Assuming you took the TB off....did you put the gasket back on?

The right way?

Smartass pHO 09-16-2005 02:14 PM

Any leftover parts when you were done?

WildoutWhiteGSR 09-16-2005 02:26 PM

Actually we did mixed up the gasket before, but we fixed that last night.

Were idiots, we mixed up the connectors for the map and tps sensor. They both have the same connection. Damn, we got owned hard.

All good now.
