Car Shutting off while driving

My mom's '99 EL randomly shuts off while driving, its happened 2 or 3 times. We'll be driving along, and the engine just goes off, no engine light, battery light or anything....just coasting... any ideas?

Also the alarm randomly goes off even though the sensor hasnt been triggered. Thats not as much as an issue as the car shutting off though.

got any ideas on what i should check for. I think it might be electrical, but have no idea what to check.

Car starts up fine usually, so the battery is okay i think.

Thanks :)

the battery light comes on because the alternator is spinning to pump up the volts.

my best guest is an EGR valve or (cant remember wut its called but...) its this tinhg in the TB that keeps the idle going while your off the throttle and the TB plate is completely closed. it could have alot of dirt and ---- stuck in it. both of these tinhgs wouldnt trigger a check enigne light like your having. hope this helps.

Ignitor is the distributor or your main fuel relay.

More info is needed though

rpms
weather conditions
etc

More info:
Check engine light does not come on at all, everything goes off.
Happens when off the accelerator, e.g. stopped or braking at a slow speed. tdot2gteg think you're on to something, whats a TB though?

Car alarm thing happens if the car is parked outside and its damp usually.

sikktegra, u wanna come over and perform the exsorcism on the car

TB = throttle body, double check all your vacuum lines as well when your around the intake manifold.

I had my car shut itself off half way through corner one at Mosport. My key fob hit something and turned the alarm on. :) If your alarm has an ignition kill, it might be sending false signals. Though if it's only happening when off the accelerator, it's far more likely to be one of the things mentioned above.

hey
first thing i would do is remove the alarm then try it out
does your alarm have a remote starter also ??

easy way to fix this problem is to sell it for as much as u can to some 16 year old and buy another one lol

Is it an aftermarket alarm? Does it have a kill switch? If the car shuts off and the alarm starts to go off, it seems as it it could be a problem with the alarm wiring.
