Car shakes on acceleration

Hey guys does anyone know why ever since i installed lowering suspension on my car it shakes on acceleration? Any ideas why this would happen when lowering the car?

ignazty 12-07-2010 09:24 AM

maybe you need an alignment.

you gotta be more specific on your explanation of the problem for us to be able to diagnose it better

blackintegra 12-07-2010 09:30 AM

I dont think it would be an alignment just because it only happens when i accelerate. Once im at a cruising speed the car is fine. If im on the highway cruising its fine. But when i accelerate to enter the highway for example it shakes. i could feel the shaking on the gas pedal and steering wheel even the doors.

How much did you lower the car?

blackintegra 12-07-2010 10:26 AM

not by much you can fit almost 2 fingers.

MPR 12-07-2010 12:33 PM

How many fingers could you fit at stock height?

Trying to determine/estimate how much your camber has changed...

Does the shaking increase with speed? Does it shake while braking and while coasting?

Can you describe the shaking in more detail?

blackintegra 12-07-2010 01:08 PM

At stock height i was able to fit close to 4 fingers. the shaking only increases with more speed. So if im just cruising along and i decide to give it gas it starts to shake then it stops once i stay at that speed. Does that help? Basically if im driving at 40km and i decide that i want to go 60km once i gas it it starts to shake. But if i decide to cruise at 60km its fine. So its only when i want to increase my speed.

It could be your tires.

When you lower the car it changes the way the tires contact the road. How old are the tires you have on (how many km's) and what kind/size are they?

blackintegra 12-08-2010 06:34 AM

The summers that i had on were only 2 years old, they are 205/45-16. But just this past weekend i put on my winters which are also new and it does the exact same thing. no difference at all in the car.

All your lug-nuts are properly torqued?

blackintegra 12-08-2010 11:28 AM

Yup for sure. What bothers me so much about this is it only happened once i got new coilover suspension installed.

AcuratePaul 12-08-2010 08:21 PM

Thing that bothers me about this is it only happens upon accelerating which puzzles me because the first thing I thought of was maybe balance but you'd always feel that.

What suspension are you using?

blackintegra 12-09-2010 06:32 AM

I have tein super streets installed.

MPR 12-09-2010 10:41 AM

Is it only in one gear or every gear?

yeah, without seeing the car in person, it's difficult to diagnose...lol.

blackintegra 12-09-2010 11:28 AM

it happens pretty much in any gear but i notice it mostly when im in the city crusing in 4th the i decide to accelerate and there comes the shaking

MPR 12-09-2010 12:43 PM

It could be a bad motor mount or two. That would cause excessive vibration on acceleration only and not deacceleration/cruising... Check the 3 main motor mounts (one on each side down low. One bolts to the engine block down near where the A/C compressor as and the other bolts to the trany. The 3rd is hard to see but is down the back of the engine, under the intake manifold and bolts on where the trany is bolted to the engine...)

If those are good, check the other two mounts. One bolts to the top of the trany on the passenger side and the other is next to the timing belt cover on the drivers side.

I'm guessing one or more of these mounts is shot...

blackintegra 12-09-2010 01:14 PM

thanks will get that checked out. Do you recommend any shops? dont really want to go back to the shop that i used to go to.

AcuratePaul 12-09-2010 01:44 PM

MPR is right it does sound like motor mounts was just thinking the same thing last night. Just try some local shops any shop can help you out with motor mounts but make sure they don't feed you crap and tell you to replace all of them. Just be there when their checking. Just ask him why it needs replace if it does.

blackintegra, where are you located?

93tegralsv 12-14-2010 04:08 PM

That shaking was happening to me also ,it was like a side to side shake , it was cuz the axle was slowly slipping out.

blackintegra 12-17-2010 11:43 AM

Im in the dufferin/rogers area

how did u fix it? was it cause it was tight or was it broken?

Nanmike 02-04-2011 01:25 PM

If you didn't get this fixed yet, I'd recommend checking out my guy.
They replaced my mounts cheap! I didn't even know I had a problem and they showed it to me. Yes, they SHOWED me. Both in and out of the car.
