car nearly died

Hi Guys,

While driving today my car's rev dropped and it looked it was going to die.
I put the car in neutral and reved the car a little bit.
It didn’t work at first, after a couple tries, all it came to life.

No sure what this could be.
Also noticed that my rev meter shows its sitting at 500 at idle while before it used to be 800.

Any idea what this could be or how to troubleshoot this?

i am very lost on how to fix this.
Help anyone?

ok folks,
I took in my car and the mechanic told me it was my distributor cap. i had my spark plus, rotor and cap replaced.
Car had been running ok for 2 days when it happened again.
I am really running out of ideas now. What could this be?
The difficult part is that it does not happen all the time.
When it happens, if I shift to neutral and press the gas, the car revs up fine.
Any thoughts people, I really need some help please.

Could this be a bad o2 sensor?
Its a 95 ls, can i pull out codes

clean your IACV

ls/vtec May 19, 2008 11:56 AM

raise the idle a bit

blacktegra May 19, 2008 11:58 AM

should be your IAC valve .

checked vacuum leaks - none
added some injector cleaner
timing seems to be ok since this only happens sometimes.
compresstion- havenot tested it, however i think it should be ok since it only has 120,000km an it does not die all the tme.

Going to go ahead and change the fuel filter.

Is it possible there is water in my gas line?
is there a tester for this?

they have an additive that can be dumped into your gas tank that can remove it... gas line antifreeze, its real inexpensive. Changing a fuel filter is never a bad idea but i would still go ahead and do what blacktegra said as that may be the case and its inexpensive to do also.

how do i check the IAC valve?
Can the oxygen sensor cause these problems?
