A/C Question
 

Sup guys, just wondering if anyone can shine some light to my A/C issue.

it turns on but does not blow cold air... could it be the freon ?

is there anything else that might be the problem ?

if so, anyone recommend a good shop and for how much approximately.

u may have to charge your system again if it is old.. you have to do that every 5 years or so with the old chemical a/c system...
also check your lines.. ur in out out lines from ur pipe may have gotten brittle over winter and cracked opening a hole in the system..

I have the same problem on my 93.

Sounds like the compressor is working but not getting cold is usually an indication that your systems refrigerant needs to be charged. There is a troubleshooting process to inspect where the refrigerant is leaking if at all since you can "see" a lot just by looking, start with a visual inspection of the refrigerant cycling components under the hood with the engine off. First, look at the compressor and its drive belt. Is the belt connected, sufficiently tight and in serviceable shape? Replacing a missing belt may be all that's required for a quick fix (and check the other belts while you're at it, too).

Inspect the refrigerant hoses for damage (don't be fooled by surface damage to the insulation that may be covering the hoses). Since a small amount of lubricating oil is contained within the system, check if any areas or connections are oily, with no other possible outside source. Oil found on any A/C component, or at any of the hose or line connections without an outside source, usually indicates refrigerant loss at those points, which may require replacing those components and a recharge and retest of the system.

same thing, your condensor is broken more then likely and has been leaking good luck i just got mine fixed... 4 bills later... :(

Don't waste your money fixing it. You can end up spending a TONE of money (as i have) and not really even find the real problem.

However, if you do still want to get it fixed, before you even replace ANY parts, go get an pressure test to see if some component is leaking. If so, you can get an "ultrasound" to see exactly where it's leaking from. From there, either replace the part that is leaking or you can even use sealent stuff....it's a cheaper fix depending on the part.

However, it can be leaking from more than one spot. Make sure whomever re-gases your A/C puts in the leak detector or 'green dye' so you can see where it is leaking from.

Any mechanic will tell you the A/C system is complex and once it is not working, it is sometimes very hard to root-cause why it's not working.
