Burning Oil

How much oil is too much consumption between oil changes??? Right now I'm going through 2 quarts over a 5000Km period. I've checked the compression, it's fine, not leaking anywhere. When I go to wide open throttle, it is visable out the back of the exhaust, but it seems excessive. Is it???

it's probably your piston rings.

compression test only test the compression ring and how well it and the valves seal. if your oil control rings are worn it will consume oil.

2 quarts over 5k period is allot......time for a re-build or just live with it.....

Buff4Prez Yo 09-11-2005 09:04 AM

you could slow it down by putting in thicker oil

How thick should I go?? I've been using Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W-30

Chyld 09-11-2005 12:01 PM

go 10w-30 and see how that goes but maybe if u continue burning oil go up some more 15w-30 etc trail and error. I know they say u should use thicker n thinner in summer n winter but just go up one u normaly would.

If your using Mobil 1 is burns like there's no tomorrow.

Switch to Castrol Syntec and it'll stop.
