Budget big brake how to

This swap was done on DA integra spindles. This swap is very simple to do if you can get a local machine shop to do the machine work for you and it shouldn't take them longer than an hour to do it.
First find some '96 Accord Wagon calipers or similar and modify the caliper bracket where it mounts to the spindle by shaving the mounting surface down flush with the rest of the bracket. You will be removing about .1" of material. These calipers will be rebuilt after this process.

Each mounting surface should look like this when finished:

Here you can see just how much material is being removed:

Next, pickup some '92-'95 Prelude 11.1" 114x4 rotors and re-drill them for 100x4 to fit the smaller bolt pattern. I chose to line up the existing bolt pattern straight on the table with some .5" dowel pins and then drill the new pattern through the existing holes so as to not add any new holes.

To do this, you need to use an endmill, a drill will wander and create an improper hole.

From the center of the rotor you will need to move to 35.355mm in each direction for each new hole.

Here is a comparison to my oem crx rotors at 9.5"

From here on out you will only be able to fit 15" rims or larger:

Did you do this at your shop or did you go to a machine shop to have the rotors redrilled? Which shop did you go to to get it done?

Im doing a similar brake upgrade as well and I need to get a set of rotors redrilled.

this was done at my shop. $25/rotor.

^ Sweet, check your pm.

do you have to use the bracket from the accord? i've seen ppl use the stock DA/DC bracket and use a legend caliper.

that is a good question. if they have the same part number then it should work fine. i think the type R might be the same possibly as well. i don't know how easily you can mix and match brackets with calipers though, but i'm sure there can be a way to do it with the right modifications... this way just seems pretty simple and straight forward.

If i can't sell my car, Im going to try and find some legend 2pot calipers. Order some bb1 rotors. thats all i need right? than i'll just bring the stock DA brackets to you to shave and redrill the front rotor.

weiR 03-21-2007 07:51 PM

no, you need the brackets that come with the calipers... the stock DA brackets will only work with the stock calipers. you should be able to pick up the rotors at crappy tire... just ask for some prelude rotors (92-95) with the 4x114 bolt pattern. give me a shout when you want them done. 905-802-4703 aaron

Spoon caliper covers are cheaper.
