Brakes; pads & rotors

Hey guys, kinda curious to what brands people suggest, or what people are running. I'm looking for something decent, doesn't need to be THE best tho, just better than stock... I plan on using it mainly on the street, but also plan to do some circuit/lapping. (not hardcore this season, maybe next season)...
I see option jdm has these: https://www.torontointegras.ca/forum...al/#post301293
has anyone tried this brand? (kvr performance)

Thanks guys

Ebc Greenstuff Pads
+
Brembo Blanks

blackRS 02-22-2010 10:22 PM

just our of curiosity, why brembo rotors? any no name ones will do the trick

Vida 02-22-2010 10:23 PM

Brembo is just well known for quality.Brembo Blanks dont run you too much do they? Just a big more than any other blank rotor.

JDM_overdose 02-22-2010 10:25 PM

any roter will do fine lol

i agree
but i noticed that my bremos wore down much less and less scores in it like more even
also say away from cross drilled and slotted just bling and more prone to failure / warpage

AcuratePaul 02-23-2010 10:18 AM

I got kvr slotted rotors and they are good for me and they also don't rust. I'm still running oem brake pads gotta get myself some new brakes.

irsdb7 02-23-2010 10:29 AM

yea i hate rust i like to paint my rotors before installing them

8500 RPM 02-23-2010 12:47 PM

Hawk HPS with Centric/Powerslot blanks (the rotor head is treated/painted unlike the Brembo blanks that rust like a bitch). Affordable combination good for street and some light track duties.

Painting your rotors?

8500 RPM 02-23-2010 01:49 PM

^^^I think he means painting the rotor head and the edge (vents) of the rotor.

JustinDM 02-23-2010 02:57 PM

I'm running hp+ front and rear, with oem blanks. The Brembo blanks are good, they have a better initial bite compared to OEM. The reason for this is b/c the Brembo blanks are made of a softer material hence the greater initial bite. However there is the downside to that, which is replacing your rotors more often.

It's a catch 22.... or a double edged sword situation.

The HP+ or EBC yellow stuff (I think) will offer you "race" like brake performance w/o being PITA of changing to a race pad compound such as HP Blue or Axxis Ultimate @ the track.

Another thing to keep in mind is the word synergy. It's all a package deal. If you upgrade your brakes and get Wal-Mart tires that's money not being spent wisely. The reason for it is that you are not getting your full potential from your brakes with crappy tires.

Or even not upgrading to a higher quality brake fluid like Motul or Super Blue. Boiled brake fluid is killer b/c it increases the occurence of brake fade. Which is a big NONO.

I think the only thing I hate more in this world than brake fade is inside tire spin.

Happy Circuiting!!!!

patrick3319 02-23-2010 03:33 PM

I believe my tires are good, just bought them last summer don't have many km on them... but I got BF Goodrich G-force KDWs. I was told they were a great tire, and like to stick especially with some heat in them... so to warm them up before I do whatever it is i'm doing... so its just to upgrade pads/rotors so I have at least better than oem...

JDM_overdose 02-23-2010 04:02 PM

Just get that package from optionJDM. you dont need brembo roters. your not racing the car everyday. You can even get no name cross drill and slotted. Most people waste their money on brembo breaks and roters. They just want that JDM "bling". So they can brag about how much un-nessessary money they spent on their close to stock car.

And converting to 5bolt is pointless too. Its a un-nessessary JDM "bling" upgrade.

Tuners- Gets the 5bolt for bigger brake system to handle better when racing

Ricers- Gets the 5bolt just to show how much un-nessessary money they spent on their stock car.

Lowering your car, spoiler, rims, aftermarket steering wheel, bigger brake system.....that all means nothing.

When you work on your engine, then you can call yourself a tuner. In the mean-time, call your self a "JDM Fan Boy"

Not saying this to anyone.... just saying in general

JustinDM 02-23-2010 04:06 PM

Agreed... they are great tires. Yeah if you had your mind set on KVR go with them. I haven't heard great news about them, but I haven't heard bad news about them either.

I've had my eyes set on their Type R rotors that are re-drilled to the 4x100 configuration for the ITR/Legend/Accord Caliper swap. Which I will be doing hopefully in the near near future. Hopefully before the start of the upcoming season.

TOFTT and keep us posted. I am pretty confident that the setup you are looking @ would perform better than OEM.

patrick3319 02-23-2010 04:18 PM

well I had a buddy (bufforprez) sp? told me what i'd need to do for the swap from the accord... just donno if I want to spend that much this year... like I said until I get more into circuiting, I just wanna have more "stock" brakes than anything...but a little upgraded for when I do head out!

Buff4Prez Yo 02-24-2010 02:43 PM

Pat, run the same setup i have.

for the price, you can't beat it.

The "All in the Family" Big Brake Upgrade

92-95 Prelude vtec rotors (Whatever brand you prefer. I have Wagner)
94-97 accord V6 calipers. (same part number as ITR)
ITR Hawk HPS pads
SS braided brake lines.
DOT4 fluid.

the rotors have to be drilled to 4x100 and the back of the caliper bracket has to be machined about 2-3mm

total cost is about $600

2nd best upgrade i've done to my car. pedal travel is very little and braking distance drastically reduced.

if you want to run stock size brakes just get a decent rotor, hawk hps pads (got mine for $75) and SS brake lines with DOT 4 fluid. works almost as good.

JustinDM 02-24-2010 05:00 PM

And that is w/ labour or just parts?

Buff4Prez Yo 02-24-2010 06:26 PM

thats just parts. why would you pay labour? just DIY.

JDM_overdose 02-24-2010 06:38 PM

not a lot of people know how to machine stuff.

JustinDM 02-24-2010 08:44 PM

Just curious... if that was parts and labour it would be cheaper for me :D. Besides the machining of the bracket, everything is within my skill level.

patrick3319 02-24-2010 09:27 PM

he told me having it machined was included in that price... he just means installing them yourself!
