Body Work
 

I need to do some body work on my car its just minor rust around the wheel wells. And some spots around the windshield on the pillars. Can some one give me a a step by step instruction on how to do it...like wat grit sand paper should i use and what order should i do it in...grind-sand-bondo- or watever thanks

I don't always believe doing body work yourself is worth the effort. It's a dirty job, nasty job and chances are you'll make it worse - then it will just end up costing you even more to repair later. Leave it to a professional.

If your car is in good shape and you want to keep it a while, and you think it's worth it, then invest the money and do it properly. If the car isn't worth spending the money to do it right, then just enjoy the car, leave it alone and let it rott out.

If you still insist on doing it yourself keep in mind that primer is pourous. If you drive around with primer and your car gets wet it will seep through and you'll have to redo all the bodywork that you did underneath it. But again, body work isn't worth doing yourself. I can recommend a really good body guy whose prices are more than fair.

Some rust on the wheels wells and pillars beside the windshield is not minor body work.

Mines rusted so bad at the rear wheel area that my back bumper had no more support both sides. Couldn't stand to look at my baby that way so I decided to get it fixed. Went to a auto body and they told me it would cost around $400 to fix it cuz have to cut up the rust and well in a new piece of metal....I've been saving up for leather seats so f*ck that, I went to Candian tire and bought myself some sanding paper, honda/acura black touch up paint, primer and auto bondo and fixed it myself. Tell u the truth I have no experience in this at all and still manage to get it done!!! = ) I'm not saying its the best job....just looks satifying to my eyes. Too bad I didn't take any pics of how it was before I fixed it up to compare the difference. But yea it didn't cost $400, all the material in total was like $20 and 2-3 hours of work(mostly sanding). If you really want to see pics of my finished job let me know and i'll take a pic of it tomorrow and post it up. I'll write up a quick article tomorrow...too sleepy to think right now.

if you got rust on the pilars you are best off just taking it to a shop because chances are, to have it done right and only once you'll have to pull the windshield out. our car have a tendency to rust there and get behind the trim molding and there for causing a leaking and cracked windshield

Rust around the wheel wells and around the pillars is ALOT of work. I have rust in the exact same places. I wouldnt recommend doing it yourself unless you have a welder and are good at body work. I've dont tons of body work on my car and it comes out real good (you'll see when its painted) but dont even bother if your not gunna reinforce it with a new peice of metal. You can grind it down and fibreglass the ---- outta it but i doubt that'll last long. Or cut a peice of metal yourself and fibreglass it on. Or best of all go to a body shop get it welded on and get a rust guarantee. Be careful around the windsheild, i did the rust on my old teg around the window, it was all done, it was just drying and the single pillar was off and i went to the store. Next thing u know i got like a 30 inch crack across my windsheild cuz the windsheild basically buckled
