black smoke H22 integra

hey guys,

So when I accelerate, i get SOMETIMES a cloud of black smoke, not to to thick but i can see it from my rear view mirror and my rear bumper gets dirty. And when i flooor it and vtakk it, it gets pretty bad!

Car doesnt seem to run rich as i get between 24-26mpg city + highway, and oil, well i never top it off as i never have to! so its not burning, just a SLIGHT leak in oil pan gasket.

Anyways, its a JDM h22, running a chipped p28 (tuned by nick at teknotic) and i have a cat. with full 2 1/2 inch mandrel bent exhaust and vibrant muffler.

Is this normal?!

Also when I first turn the car on in the morning, i get some carbon spray on the floor of my garage. Not too too much, but its there!

my friends nissan 240 sr20 does that your probably running rich?

Dinan3 07-11-2008 10:16 AM

But i seem to be getting good mileage no? Last time i filled it up and got about 450kms to the tank (integra tank is smaller than prelude too! 45L i thnk?)

plus it was just tuned like last april/may... so i dont know!

all h22's do that.. even my buddies stock 2000 prelude does it.. he gets the black sut all over his bumper..

h22's have that problem for some reason..
i have hooked my scope up to it and everything runs mint.

^ok thats fine, as long as its normal then its not a problem to me!:D

so would this mean that I would miserably fail emissions? LOL
I've still got the stock p13, and it seems to have passed by the previous owner.

what kind of oil are you running? i find that with vtec motors and mobil1 it burns everytime you hit vtec.

sorry to tell u this but 29-30 mixed is what you should be getting, but then again you had it tuned so im sure certain parts of your map dump more fuel than others so there you go.

i just got 550km from 41L and i still drive spirited (just b4 reserve light comes on) j1 short geard tranny on jdmb16. cant really get away from the carbon im running a tuned p28 magnaflow highflow cat hks hipower exhaust my tip has carbon all over it

Fuzzy: yea I'm running mobil1, but it doesnt seem to be burning oil as I've never had to top it! plus i get the smoke sometimes without hitting vtec.

Djinferno: I've been reading at wat most ppl get in a Prelude, and most are around 400-450kms to the tank (60L or so tank in prelude if im not mistaken), so around 23ish mpg. So from what I've read I'm getting decent mileage... unless im once again mistaken?

Blownb16: yea, wish I had a b16 sometimes :( . so you are getting carbon build up too eh? guess it must be the tuning.

thanks for the reply guys, let me know if someone else has experience with this.

^ well i have friends with 22's inside bubbles and tegs and etc etc. if they drive normally they get about 28 mpg mixed. I dont know about preludes though, remember heavier cars right? Remember its a 22 inside a teg right, a lot lighter of a car. And with 4 bangers every KG counts.
