being an idiot on a cold night

so last night it was pretty cold and i thought i would try my heater since i never tried it...and when i moved the knob for the thermo to go to heat..i heard a crack...and now it just goes side to side....in other words i broke it and now its stuck to heat...yayy the heater works and now its stuck... i lookd through it with a flashlight and i saw it did crack...i was thinking...can i just super glue that or do i have to get a new climate control?...i dont know if its just mine..but the knob was pretty stiff...
any help pls?...

that knob is attached to a cable wich puls a valve open or shut in the engine bay that allows coolent to flow through the heater core. You have some options:
1) make sure the lever at the back of the climat controll is hooked up wtih the cable it is hard to get to so have fun therre are screws behind the two swithces defrost and hazards also in the cilmate control to the bezel or border around the vents.

2) go to the firwall and move the lever maunaly so you arnt stuck on hot

3) buy a climate controll from me because i have three for a good price

If you just lost the knob on the end of the heater controll then just move it manually.

You'd be better off getting a new one, super glue will not hold at all.

yeaa..my friend is giving me his...but is it always that stiff?...when moving from cold to heat or vice versa..cuz if it is...it will likely happen again...
...?

The knob on my climate control is quite stiff also, I'm worried eventually it will let go. I'm not sure what the normal "stiffness" is for the knob, but I know this is overly hard to move. Not something I'd dump money into to get fixed, but hopefully it'll hold up.

A new climate control unit, the whole thing, can be found for around $100 on kijiji. Try JDM places as well, there's always goodies in there.

yeah mine is really hard too. it works awesome though so no complaints. my old tegg was the same way. the knob was pretty tight, it was a little more fluid when you moved it, but still pretty tight non-the-less

haha..same ---- happened to me.i just use a fire extinguisher pin to move it..lol..ghetto..i just change the cold to hot during emergency, otherwise twice a year

So it seems to be a relatively common problem, the knobs tightening up, it seems..

happend to me 2 timess!

aldrine 08-30-2009 04:29 PM

any lube to make it more loose?..(thats what she said...HAHAHHA)...but seriously...

and how much to replace it?...100?...thought they were cheap...

Neon_Dave 08-30-2009 05:06 PM

I'm not sure if you can easily find just the knob, or if that's even the reason for the tightness..

This happened to me to a civic i had. i couldn't glue it, so just lived with it.

You can prob get a stock climate control at junk yards for cheap or by from jdm places, but no point in fixing it. I have same prob its uber stiff but mine stays on cold unless the gf bothers me lol, plus dont drive it in winter.
