B18a/b intake manifold question

1 Attachment(s)
I have a question about the intake manifold on a 90-93 b18 or rather more about certain air hoses that it has. The red outlined areas has this peice which is apparently called the diaphragm assembly and some other metal peice beside it i dont know of where 2 hoses come out of these and go into the intake plastic piping. My buddy's DA doesnt have these metal assemblies anymore, the last owner removed them, in fact the only hose that goes to his intake tube is the PCV hose from the valve cover. My question is, are these small hoses necessary? I was thinking of taking them off along with the diaphragm that bolts on to the manifold since when i install a metal short ram pipe, there is no place for those 2 small hoses anyways right?

P.s. im just wondering what the diaphragm does, i know it has a spring loaded mechanism or something of that nature.... The 94+ B18b's dont have this, the manifold is bare except for the throttle body.

The diaphragm acts like a cold start injector " CHOKE".don't bother taking it off! ...want a free performance gain re-route the throttle body coolant hoses...no need to heat the TB in summer..lol
