Anybody's sound system being powered by a separate battery?
If your sound system is being powered by a seperate battery, can you let me know is there a specific battery I have to get and do you know anybody that can do the wiring for this..Thanks.
|
seriously bro...what are you running that requires a 2nd battery? If its those JBL subs don't bother.
Are your lights dimming? Have you tried replacing the battery under the hood with something bettery like a yellow-top? Have you tried adding a cap to help distribute the load better? etc...etc... |
If yur running a big sustem den da best battery to use is da yellow top optima !!! as for wiring if u use dat battery den u have no need to run a seperate battery !!! It's just gonna draw more power from yur alt. !!!
It makes no sence man !!! And u can get a 1 farad cap dat helps a lot tooo man !!! |

well yellow tops don't fit under the hood of a g3 teg so you'll have to relocate it and since you wanna add a 2nd battery you might be stuck putting 2 in the trunk. save that 0 gauge to run from the battery(ies) to the alternator.

how many amps is your alt?
Yellow tops are not the "best" battery to purchase for high power audio systems. dont believe the hype, from my past experience they have been nothing but a pain. Hawker Oddesy (sp), Exide Orbital batteries etc.. those are all fine batteries. For a high power car audio system, you should have a 150-200 amp alternator. if you need one, get in contact with Dominick Iraggi, of Iraggi alternators. His alternators power some of the loudest SPL vehicles in the world. OHIO generators also makes a fine high amperage Alternator as well. |

Optima batteries are the ULTIMATE battery out there. I should know. I've been in the battery industry for 10 years. I've sold Optima batteries for just as long and I manage Interstate Batteries of Toronto! And are you serious?! Do you really want me to believe that a company like Exide or Hawker is worthy enough to compete against Optima? The quality alone is unsurpassed! Compared to your so-called 'fine' batteries (Orbital, Odessey), there is no equal. Optima batteries are 15 times more versitile, resiliant and durable than any conventional battery out there! Try getting a warranty on an Orbital without the receipt! Good luck! I once sold a customer of mine a used Optima battery. This guy had a higher end system installed in his car, fit with the works including screens galore! He came back to me weeks later and praised the battery that I had sold him. It turns out he accidently left his DVD screen on all night and in the morning he came out and his car fired right up on the first start! Now that's power! :yeah: I also went to a seminar once on Optima batteries while I was on a business trip in the US. The presenter drove a steel rod straight through an Optima battery as it was hooked up to a load and to my amazement it didn't skip a beat! How's that for not being the 'best battery to purchase'! I'd get my facts straight before you make such an inexperieced statement. I'll let you in on a little secret. Did you know that Canadian Tire makes up almost 46% of the Candian battery market? And who do you think supplies them with batteries? If you guessed Exide then you'd get a cookie! Their Motomaster line is utter garbage and that's not a biased statement! I see more junk battery returns from Exide every day than any other battery I recycle and the majority are less than a year old! We recycle upwards of 50,000 lbs of junk batteries a WEEK! I've also heard down the grapevine that Canadian Tire is unsatisfied with Exide's batteries, however they don't want to be the ones to put them out of business (seeing that Exide's already filled for bankruptcy many years ago). Just imagine what that would do to the market up here?! If my company were to acquire the Canadian Tire account we'd be a monopoly and i'd be driving a BMW! As for your problem Cheetah...I doubt you need more than one battery to run your system. I'm sure what your car needs and what you want are completely different things. Your problem is probably as simple as you running your battery down so much (a common occurance for those uneducated in proper battery maintenace) that you've either killed it so that it won't hold a charge any longer thus resulting in your lights dimming. Your battery could also be so old that you need to replace it regardless. The first thing I can recommend is that you check your alternator output. If it's within the 12 volt range then I suggest you consider your options. You may have to purchase a new alternator because it's probably not charging your battery sufficiently enough. If it's between 13 - 14 volts then you're ok. If that's the case then get your battery load tested and only do so if it's fully charged! A battery that's not fully charged will usually fail. And the best battery you can install is a Yellow Top Optima for your system. Don't listen to those who don't know what they're talking about. Battery Pimp out! |
check your grounds, if they are shitty or corroded not enough voltage (actually amps) will be flowing!
Yellow Top FTW!!! |
Rrebel...amazingly done! Basically ended this thread, thanks but now for some questions, how much can i grab an optima battery of you? im going to replace my tegs battery as soon as i get it, my alt is good because one of the people who checked out my ride to buy it checked the reading and said this is an amazing alt i have in here, but i think you are right about my battery, when ever i come back from waterloo every week to markham my car doesnt start cuz the battery was killed one night on the first night i left to waterloo i left the light on for 2 weeks in the car :( but i dont care even if the new tegs battery is nice i want the optima! Hook it up bro!

a car's alternator is really designed to provide current for the electrical draw of the car itself and a couple of low current draw accessories. adding another battery is useless you want use a dual battery isolator it so you can listen to your stereo with the car off, unless you have a way to charge it.

Rrebel waiting for your reply to dc24me so i can make a final decision lol :) and as for dc24me from me, please dont say i need an alt again when i just said ma alt is amazing. Hate repetition.
|
Just because some one checked your alt you think its an "amazing" alt?
It has to be an performance alt that charges up more juice then oem. |
No for real ill get the reading but its very strong, the old owner had changed it.
|
changed for a oem one.
do you know they make alt's just for audio performance? |
Yes but im a 100% sure its not my alt, my battery has been dying out everytime i get home from waterloo so im pretty sure it has something to do with my battery..
|

Before I sell them I put them through a 24 hour low amperage trickle charge. After they've been sufficiently charged I then put them through a battery of tests (state of charge, load test, recovery charge) before I can safely sell them used. I also give a 6 month free replacement warranty on any used battery I sell for any type of vehicle out there! (not just Optima's), so if there was ever a problem all you'd have to do is call me and i'd take care of ya. If your alternator is good, then you have nothing to worry about. As you stated, leaving the lights on will definately drain the battery and if you do it enough you'll hurt it to a point where it will just not hold a charge anymore. And If you leave it sitting around it will sulfate and then you're screwed. I see it all the time :yeah: For any application demanding a lot of power, a yellow top is always recommended. I mention that to all of my customers that have setups like yours. It's just a smart thing to install. Now if you have more of a drain than you have capacity for then getting two batteries installed would be wise, but that's more for competition setups. A simple setup will require one optima to function sufficiently along with powering your car easily. You can reach me at 647.449.4094 if you're interested :) Ask for Nate. |

didn't the 51r have a high failure rate? i heard that the problems were mainly because they were a deep cycle battery that is not really designed starting..... regardless of what the sales/marketing rep will tell you.
he mentioned from his experience, which imo, after meeting him and talking about car audio in general he knows his stuff from first hand experience. i've heard people complain about optima yellow tops over and over again about reliablity issues. There's need to get all upset because someone isn't a fan of a product line you carry. a car's alternator is really designed to provide current for the electrical draw of the car itself and a couple of low current draw accessories. adding another battery is useless you want use a dual battery isolator it so you can listen to your stereo with the car off, unless you have a way to charge it. If that's the case then yes, you would be a little right. The group 51R Optima was pulled off the battery market a few years ago because it did not have sufficiently enough power (500 CCA) to run a vehicle and the demands a system needed. It simply was not big enough, unlike it's bigger counterpart, the SC34DU (the one I sell), to store the capacity it needed to work properly. And unfortunately for most of us with civics and DC's, that's the only group size that will fit in our vehicles. I know, it sucks. I hate Honda for it. That's why the only thing I can ever recommend for those who want a yellow top with a vehicle like that is to undergo a battery relocation (for tips see Drew a.k.a. Solid GSR YO :yeah:) But there's good news! I've heard that the group 51R Yellow Top Optima has been redesigned and is being released again in the near future! To compound my first statement, out of all of the warranties that I process DAILY a good 85% or more are still in good working order. I have a story along those lines too :) I once had this guy come in with a battery he bought off of us 10 YEARS ago! It was for his heavy duty commercial back hoe! It finally stopped working for him after that many years! Now that's amazing! And Jeff, i wasn't getting upset , all I was doing is setting the record straight and leading the blind into the light :yeah: |
Alright got your number, will give you a call saturday after my last exam around 1ish. Just have the one for a 98+ integra ready, i know thats the one im getting for sure. Thanks for the help guys lets hope this works out :)

ok I dont really care if you work for Interstate or not, I've had friends have success with and without "Yellow top" Batteries.
And as far as "not knowing" what im talking about??? dont know if that was directed at me or not, But i'll have you know I used to work with Frank At 20hz audio, powering one of the LOUDEST SPL vehicles in canada hitting 171 db ++ at events, and let me tell you........we were not using OPTIMA yellow top batteries for a Reason! And yes the 51R group yellow top batteries were a huge failure, I went through 4 of them in my civic. And as for warranty Replacement, i've had 3 batteries replaced for me hassle free from canadian tire, no hassles. When I needed my 51R battery replaced, by an authorized interstate dealer they refused to replace it after the 2nd. Nothing against yourself however, I just personally will steer clear of Optima yellow top batteries in the future. Travis
