aftermarket steering wheel laws

ok so i bottom line i want to change my factory steering wheel but im not sure on the legalities when it comes to doing this seeing as how obviously the factory one has an airbag and and aftermarket one wont. so my question is will the police give you a ticket for this and if so will your insurance screw you over? and any experiences with this would be good cuz i see some of you guys have aftermarket wheels so if youve been ticketed for this or any issues with insurance let me know thanks

As long as the horn works, you wont get a ticket. No airbag is allowed

And dont let your insurance company know you have an aftermarket wheel

I have one, and its fine. been pulled over good number of times by both nice and ass cops, no problems...

most of them don't think of it.. as long as your horn works you'll be fine, but if you go through another safety check you'll have to put the stock wheel back on..

The main thing I'm more worried about is if my insurance company would void my warrenty if anything happened

I say get a noice type R one with the Honda badge in the middle. Its the best of both worlds. Airbag, And its nice.

You are fine to have no air bag in the steering wheel, but your SRS light will be on and the srs system will no longer be working at all. The cops and insurance can not do anything about you having a aftermarket wheel. As long as the horn works, that's all the matters. I changed mine about 2 months ago, and it's not that hard to do.

I love that DAs dont come with airbags:P

Just take the bulb out of the cluster and no SRS light ;)

Can't do that, as the bulb is built into the cluster on the DC's, I know as I tried on mine.

there's been discussions about this in the past.

if you remove an airbag from an airbag equipped vehicle, depending on how your insurance company is, and if you informed them that you have removed your airbag, they can deny coverage when you get into an accident. as you removed a safety system.

do some research around other forums, its a huge grey area. its like having modifications and not telling your ins company, if they find out they can drop you or deny you coverage.

yea see i was gonna go the type r wheel route but i want to get a quick release hub so i can look cool like little bow wow and strap it to my bag plus anti theft reasons that way they can steal all my stuff in the car but ill still have my wheel =)

holung 03-24-2010 01:20 PM

so is this something i should call and ask my insurance company first or should i just leave it in the dark and if anything goes down i just put back the old wheel before the adjuster sees the car

I had the oem Honda type r wheel in my dc before. Sold it

if you get into a accident it could be a huge problem
