ABS light

I've been seeing it come on and stay on. It has since shut off but it has come on more than twice in one week usually when it has rained or is raining (if that has anything to do with it just something I noticed).
Does this mean I'll have no breaks at all or just no ABS function.

Means you just don't have the ABS function. Your brakes will still work, but when slammed on, your wheels will just lock up instead of the brakes pulsating when the ABS is on.

The light can come on for many reasons, most commonly because of dirty ABS sensors. Other reasons are there is something wrong with the ABS pump, your Sensor wires are cut or your brake fluid is hella dirty and old.

My guess is the last one..

I just diconnected mine. didnt feel like bothering with it.

SMOOTHE 10-11-2006 10:37 PM

put a piece of electrical tape on it and it won't bother you anymore.

I bought my car with the ABS light on and the guy said it needed a new ABS unit and a used one would cost me about $500. And ABS wasn't working obviously. I didn't pay attention and drove the car as is for a bit till I noticed that I needed new rear callipers. The old ones were rusted to death and I basically didn't have rear brakes. Once I changed the rear callipers the ABS became functional and the light went off.

Bottom line is having the ABS light on means that you don't have ABS but doesn't mean that it's the ABS unit or sensor problem.

Ya the front pads are very low so I'll change them this weekend. Hope its not the ABS unit thats giving the issues.

WildoutWhiteGSR 10-12-2006 11:07 PM

^^^ It won't

The abs system and the braking system are too different things, made to work independantly.

It's either ur abs sensor, abs motor or ur low on fluid/needs changing.

Another factor to consider: I recently had a battery that was wayyy past prime. My car would idle poorly, and occasionally the stereo would shut off, because the battery simply wasnt holding charge anymore. When I would get in a lowe power situation, my ABS light would come on.

Now that I have a new battery, this no longer occurs, nor does my stereo shut down, or my lights fluctuate in intensity.

dont have stereo issues or lights dimming. So yea I'll get my dad to check the battery n see how well its holding a charge.

Not sure what year your car is, but why don't you jump the connector under the dash and see what ABS code you're getting:

It's a 99 .. I guess ill try that code thing see if it throws any at me.

ABS light came on on Monday afternoon, put the car on the hoist last night. Cause - rear right wheel senosor is gone. $220 part.
